Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

It's here, Amy. Thanks for the link--I'ma shop around over there. I've already nabbed the Eagles' "Desperado" about John.

Ailleann! That was AWESOME! Supernatural Five-O! Hee!

Man, I forgot how much I liked that theme.

That was AWESOME!

I was just browsing that user, s/he's very good. TWO SPN drinking games, plus The Impala Awards, plus some quality perv time. Hi-larious.

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

Dean's wish was to "get some rest".

There's a bit of a "lay down your burdens" theme at the end of S2... Dean talking about being tired of hunting, extending through to him giving up the hunter's life permanently by giving up his whole life. I think there's more at work in this, but that's definitely a theme you could see.

Yes, Dean is weary and ready to lay down his burdens, but I think Dean’s sincerest wish is that Mary would never have died and they would have never known the lives of hunters. Dean would have never made a “get some rest” wish for himself. His happiness in the wishverse is a secondary effect.

interpretation that Dean, deep down, hates his father's f***ing guts
I don’t see this at all. At all. I think John being dead in the wishverse is representative of the fact that Dean subconsciously knew this wasn’t real all along. John told him to go take care of it from the grave. “Course, I know what you would say.”

If John had been sitting across the table at dinner, he would have said it much earlier in the show. So in order for the story to happen, and Dean to be able to enjoy some happiness for Sam, John had to be dead. John was tough on the boys, but Dean f***ing hating him? No f’ing way.

Yes. I saw the one Bev was talking about with John and Desperado. Makes me want to snuggle with him.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

The Dean hating his father I didn't buy on a gut level, but it was interesting in a theoretical way.

But I did find it terribly fascinating that Dean was repeatedly told to "get some rest" by Mary, Sam and Carmen throughout the ep. perhaps it was merely the djinn trying to placate him so he'd be easier feeding, or perhaps it really was part of the wish.

I can see that. But I think having Dean wish for rest would open so many possibilities for Sam's unhappiness that Dean would never make it. Dean is tired, but instead of killing himself after Sam dies in AHBL2, Dean trades his soul to bring Sam back. Dean doesn't rest unless the condition is met that Sam is alright.

I think the fact that he turned to him even at the grave says "you're the smartest guy I know, please help me figure this out." But he couldn't be in the episode for that very reason.
