I reviewed the arguments on the non-public. First, reviewing old vote discussion is super painful. Second, the argument against revolved around a false sense of privacy and was fairly compelling.
I just went and re-read it. So....bittersweet to read it because I miss so many of those people.
Also, that was a board-vote discussion that I absolutely did not participate in. Might be the only one. Huh.
I'm fine with avatars, but I miss the ones we had at W/X.
The possibility was raised in the Jossverse and Buffy threads that a BtVS reboot could bring in our first real influx of new members since Firefly premiered. I agree with Plei that a huge increase in active members is unlikely (we don't even allow inline gifs!), we might want to consider updating the "About this site" language to make it clear who we are.
Current text:
Welcome to Buffistas.org. This site is the online home of the Buffistas, a worldwide community of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly fans.
Proposed new text:
Welcome to Buffistas.org. This site is the online home of the Buffistas, a worldwide community of friends, brought together twenty years ago by our shared love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly.
Basically something that says right off the bat, "we started out as a fansite but now it's just a bunch of people who sometimes use Buffy references instead of regular words". And maybe repeat that language on the registration page? Not to drive people away, but just to set expectations.
t this should be an inline GIF indicating agreement
t but it's not
t because WE OLD
I don't think new users can sign up until the new board is up.
We may not get meny younger newbies, but the older folk who were fans back in the day on other now defunct boards might show up. The Bronze doesn't exist anymore. Neither does whedonesque. More reason to get our house in order.
