I like it - obviously people who aren't comfortable sharing that info wouldn't have to, but it would be nice if we had reliable ways of getting in touch with people when they go dark unexpectedly.
I like that it is opt in and not widely available. Yes, we want to be able to check on people we're concerned about but I'd be wary if it were just halfway easily obtained information. Or even went to a biggish list of people. I have trust issues, I know.
In my mind, an effort would need to be made in thread first. There are enough of us who know others of us, that we can usually make a connection without having to go to an emergency contact.
Since we're scattered across the globe, we should make sure that the emergency contact phone number is attached to a time zone, just for courtesy's sake!
I'm sorry, I brought this up and then got hit with a flood, bed bugs, and the sick (I'm afraid to consider what is next). The suggestions above are great. We should be able to add space for such information and get a post up in Press soon.
