"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Whoa, seriously? EXACTLY 42 votes?! That's crazy!

Wait, doesn't that mean the universe ends or something?

Our wings are not tired.

All is right in the universe. Every vote counts.

So I was thinking, would there be value in compiling a comprehensive b.org e-mail list for those who'd like to be on it? I know we often take things back channel when someone has a great, "Hey, let's do X for X idea," but I know it can be kind of hit or miss.

I would volunteer to compile and keep the list updated unless someone else wants to. Or, maybe even have a few people with the list. I have gate-keeping ideas if people are concerned about that, but I won't waste time with that now. I'm really just curious to see whether the community thinks it's a good idea. Not the "the community" ever has just one opinion. Usually.

Thoughts? I feel like we've floated this idea before and it never really took off, but I can't remember specifics. Obviously, it would be opt-in with opt-out ability any time. I know we have our regional lists, but one comprehensive list could be useful.

And last, I have no personal investment in the outcome; it's just occurred to me a few times over the years, so...

ETA: This is not intended to re-work the way any current (or future, for that matter) things are running. Just to be clear. Future thinking, for use if wanted; not required in any way, shape, or form.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

I like it, Jen. I know a lot of that kind of thing gets done backchannel, but some of us are not always in on that. I'd love to know about things and be able to contribute when I can.

I think having 2 keepers of the list would be a good idea, too.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

So would the idea be that the keeper would filter out the giftee manually?

JenP - Oct 24, 2011 12:52:32 pm PDT #5017 of 6786

Yeah, I mean, I don't even know whether the couple of keepers idea is the way people would want to go. Or whether it would be, "Hey, can you forward me the list?" That would be up for discussion for sure.

If keepers, then, yes -- I would imagine, send an e-mail to one of the maintainers, saying something like, "We're doing a thing for Sally, can you send out an e-mail using this text?" Then take Sally off the list, and send it out.

And, to be kind to our eyes, send stuff out bcc:, but that may just be a personal preference. Of mine.

ETA: And, you know, just to be kind, add a DON'T FORGET TO TAKE SALLY OFF THE LIST. OK?? OK!!!

Trust my rage

Good idea! I missed the Maria op but would have contributed had I known.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Yes, agreeing with Stephanie, I would have as well.

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

Same here. I like the idea!

Yeah, I think we've all probably missed one thing or another through the sheer pieciness of back channel, and how, at least in my experience, we're all using lj less these days. Or dw.

I applaud and bow to anyone who takes on organizing one of these things, because I know how hugely challenging it is to get to everyone, even with reposts, etc.
