A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

And, were the Atlantic Canadians called spoily

I think we're getting bogged down in semantics. Let's call them shmoilers. Whatever you want to call them, they are something that people coming into the bookclub thread might not want to see. I didn't realize that shmoilers would be discussed in this consensed thread, and apparently others didn't either. So, like ita said, we better make damn sure that's clear.

Thinking some more, why not use the spoilers thread until Friday night, and then open up the Bookclub then?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Well, I don't know whether TV spoilerwhores and HP spoilerwhores completely overlap (or are inclusive of one another). Where's the Venn diagram?

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I think people should also be aware that spoilers from the end of the book may be under discussion in the thread from point of opening (even it doesn't open until Friday) as they may be coming in to do some sort of read and post and get a nasty surprise.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

I don't mind having HP7 spoilers in the spoiler thread, but I don't think spoilers should be put anywhere people might already be subscribed to without a vote.

OTOH, there's a good chance this conversation will last past midnight Friday at which it will be a moot point anyway, right?

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, I'd really be happier if we didn't open a spoily thread before release date. I dunno. I think this is pretty much the biggest you could be spoiled and a lot of people are really invested in this series.

Even if you mark it on the slug or description, etc., people reading via read new won't see it necessary.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh, I thought you meant discussion had started here.

I'm of the mind that we open the thread when the book goes on sale on the East Coast. If you have a burning need to discuss it before then, Nutty and SA can show you where. Let's not startle any readers not in this thread.

Art Crawl!!!

Midnight, the 21st East Coast time?

That sounds good to me.

"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

When I expressed my contentment with discussing HP7 in the Book Club thread, I didn't think that meant we were going to open it up for spoilers early. The rest of the internet is making me curmudgeonly about spoilers.

What ita said. Given that we're bypassing our voting procedures on this one, I think it's important that we tread carefully and have a true consensus. Opening Bookclub Friday night at midnight EDT, would seem to be a good compromise on which we can all agree.
