Why? I think pre-book discussion has been co-existing fine with other discussion in Literary, so far.

Well, since we've bullshit consensed on a decision, I see no reason why not to implement that decision immediately. Especially since it's been asked for multiple times from the Stompies at this point.
Also, as noted in Literary, the book is already both on teh intarwebs and in some rare cases on the ground. I think a bit early is better than a bit late.

And you think there will be a consensus to allow spoilers in the thread? I would rather open the thread Friday night.
I think there's a need, and opening a spoily thread now fills that need. I don't think anybody will want to go full monty in Literary, because we are respectful hedgehogs, but that doesn't mean people don't want to go full monty.
(The first realio trulio spoiler-talk location I've seen was put up midday yesterday, and it appears to have quite a few discussers. Who have moved past the "rocks fall! Everybody dies!" jokey stage of spoilydom. The same could easily happen here, no?)

I love this clause and want to marry it.
I've seen people reacting to the spoilers, which is nearly as bad, and then I have to try to run away and close my eyes at the same time.

Yes! This. (and the running blind thing is very dangerous!)
So you're saying that BBC should be opened as a balls-out spoiler thread right now and will become the de facto HP thread once the book comes out and spoilers become reality? I'm just asking because as a spoilerphobe, I want to know not to go in at all before I've read the book, even to express excitement and/or anticipation or something.
I think that's right. Until Friday, I think Literary can be used for anticipation posts.
I think BBC needs to be open now for the full monty.
