We've just come off a writer's strike, there's a lot of shows that have only just started reairing, some aren't even scheduled until next fall.
Oh, good point. So, in specific, thread closure might not be a good idea right now, but might be a good idea at some other time when gigantic hassles like strikes are not a factor.
I don't think many of the cable dramas were affected by the strike, actually - most of them finished up their seasons before it was underway. (Maybe I'm forgetting some?)
The remaining survivor of the experimental threads, Reality, moves at four or five times that pace, FTR, and really is seeing much more volume than when it was Natter fodder.
I do wonder how much the writer's strike has to do with this - Reality has always been the fastest-moving of the TV threads, but recently it's also the only one where none of the shows discussed in there were forced off the air for several months.
Damages, Madmen, The Riches, Burn Notice, Psych, Monk, The Closer, Saving Grace: all limited series.
I believe that USA and TNT are both coming up with more shows and I assume that FX is too. (The Shield? Rescue Me?)
The Shield has, IIRC, 10 eps left in its run, maybe less. (And it's been so long since the "first half" of the last season aired that I've completely forgotten everything that's going on, but that's a rant for another thread.)
Thanks Jesse- I am not sure why I signed my post, except I had just been writing a series of emails at work, and I am crazy.
Well, I think it's back after the Riches - which only has 2 episodes left.
None of those shows were affected by the strike though, right? Procedurals would have taken more of a hit, but I don't see the strike as having affected the Cable Drama thread one way or the other.
But we are coming up on a year on these threads, and given how acrimonious the new thread creation process seems to be becoming, I think it's really important that when we make the argument that a separate thread will enhance discussion or relieve the burden on Natter, we come back and ask whether this is in fact the case.
My perspective is that this has happened with Reality, but has not with Cable Drama.
What we decide to do or not do is a separate issue. But I don't think the conversation should wait - or, rather, I don't mean it has to be
right now
but how long are we talking about? Another year? I don't think that's a great idea.
The new ep of Bones triggered some talk in Procedurals and House is back next week.
