We had Firefly thread on WX starting on May 15 2002, so several months before the show started.

months and months
arguing about topics almost completely unrelated to Firefly, in the absence of information about the show (information was in Spoilers, and forbidden from the thread). Thousands of posts. About the history of western movies. No talk about Firefly.
Also, generally speaking, haven't we discovered that it's a bad idea to open a new thread before you know if the show in question is going to last more than two episodes? Isn't that why we tend to discuss Tim's projects in Minearverse until they groundswell -- or at least premiere --, because his projects have a bad habit of dying a horrible death aborning?

I think a Joss show has a likelihood for a full season that we haven't seen from Tim's shows (for which I blame Fox).

It was my understanding that we would always, automatically have a dedicated thread for any Joss show-

why does it need a new thread? we have natter. for that matter, I am pretty sure we have underused threads already up. go. start obsessing over anything. see who joins.
I'd even go ahead and make an announcement if you want to make sure people know where the talk is.

If it was actually going to be in Natter, I wouldn't care. If it was going to be in Boxed Set, I would.
Plus, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Joss shows getting their own thread. Although I certainly agree with this:

Maybe I'm superstitious, but I fear that the sooner the show has its own thread, the sooner it'll be cancelled.
The only reason why I'd prefer discussion of the show be in Minearverse for the time being is that I can't keep up with Natter and Boxed Set is rife with spoilers for shows that I've fallen behind in watching.
