I contend that once we know their perspective they are no longer lurking.
But I'm just repeating myself.
If they are still lurkers we can't know anything about their POV, and therefore it's silly to try and accomodate them.

And if I know who you are, I don't consider you a lurker.
So if they support you in email, they are no longer lurkers.

As always, ita says it better than I ever possibly could.
So if they support you in email, they are no longer lurkers.
No one supports me in e-mail, except, evidently, the people who try to sell me knock-off Viagra.
I think the confusion, as ita has pointed out, is that we are using different definitions of lurker.

Yep. I stop considering you a lurker once you post.
And I consider them non-lurkers once they've expressed themselves. So voting and polls and money count.
And what I feel across the board: if you don't express your feelings on the matter you could be posting up a storm, but I'm not going to lose sleep about your unexpressed feelings being catered to.
It's not, for me, about having posted or not. It's about having opined.
So if you vote and never post, you're doing your bit to shape the board, perhaps more than if you post and never vote.
Although there is one type of person who meets ita's definition of NOT-a-lurker, but not victor's -- the person who has donated money to the board but never posts.
Okay, this is probably one, maybe two people.
Still, what do we call the almost-lurkers? Lurkeresque?
If a lurker falls in the forest...
...and it's whitefonted, do we highlight the text?

Hangers-about?
