Russell Crowe, maybe? Not that I'm comfortable with him, but I can't think of anybody truly capable of taking on that joyful, larger-than-life persona in an action adventure hero.

Make Captain Blood a woman, and Lucy Lawless could totally play her. I always thought Lawless was the modern Errol Flynn, mediocre at acting, but a marvelous performer, great swagger, great sneer, great charisma and projected the impression of being relaxed of never taking it too seriously.
