John Barrowman.
Now I am picturing captain Blood whipping out his penis!
This is sort of weird, but I think Keanu could play Captain Blood.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Take Barrowman's joie de vivre and Jackman's ability to play larger than life, and I think you have it.
20 years ago, I'd have put Harrison Ford in that role. Not now.
Pirates of Penzance/Sophie's Choice era Kevin Kline. HMOG. Now? Offhand I really can't think of anybody. Sad, really.
Make Captain Blood a woman, and Lucy Lawless could totally play her. I always thought Lawless was the modern Errol Flynn, mediocre at acting, but a marvelous performer, great swagger, great sneer, great charisma and projected the impression of being relaxed of never taking it too seriously.

Johnny Depp?
Depp might be able to, but I see him as too off-center to be the next Flynn. I do like the idea of Captain Blood as a woman, and Lawless might be able to do it.
I never thought it would happen, but I'm sick of Johnny Depp.
Oooh. Captain Blood remake!
Johnny Depp
Too fey.
Russell Crowe
Too broody/charmless

Cannot act his way out of a paper bag.
Hugh Jackman
Hmmm. He's got the right build for it. And it's a UK-Australia co-production, so he's got a leg up there as well. He might have lost some star power though, what with the Viva Laughlin debacle and Australia getting panned critically.
Since someone mentioned Russell Crowe, maybe Paul Bettany? He certainly is charming enough, and he's got dramatic chops, too. Wee bit on a slender side, but he could probably beef up.
Oh, Paul Bettony. I like that.
