Examples of steadicam (or a similar equivalent) action sequences? See Children of Men.
I am corrected. Actually my favorite steadicam action sequence is in Raising Arizona.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

as well ditching as Number One as Pike's first officer, which is pretty lame, IMO.
Well, they've already fucked with canon by making Kirk and Spock the same age, haven't they? Or having them at the Academy at the same time.
The description from Jessica's DH has Spock serving on the Enterprise while Kirk is still a cadet.
Oh, so you mean it would help if I'd actually read the article in question, rather than just blabbing away?

Better now.
Actually, I'm quite looking forward to the flick, despite the writhing of my inner purist.
I think my inner Trekkie is dead, because I don't care.
When reruns of anything but TOS come on, I'm very much "meh," and will only watch if nothing else is on. On the rare occasions I catch original series reruns, I care more, but it's with the fondness for a childhood toy. The fervent attachment is gone.
I'm looking forward to the movie, but the canon violations are sort of "whatever" to me.
As long as the movie doesn't suck.

And to play "How fast can I identify this episode?" Bonus points if you can id it just from the picture of the planet they're orbitting.

Done that.
I once blew Miracleman's mind by identified an episode of Next Gen within about a second, just by the star field in the opening shot.
