And today was my day to see Paris je t'aime, which I thought of as a spinach movie and ended up enjoying tremendously. Though
I now feel sorry for Vincenzo Natali. I'm sure he thought his Lord of the Rings-meets-Underworld segment would be the most frightening, then his fellow directors trumped him with overweight mimes in love and Nick Nolte.
The "Place des Victoires" segment with Juliette Binoche just slew me. So touching. And beautifully shot, even in comparison to most of teh other segments
.
Saw The Bourne Ultimatum today. What possessed them to cast Albert Finney as Hirsh when Brian Cox was in The Bourne Supremacy. We walked out of there confused because the two men look so much alike we thought there were the same character. We should have rewatched the first two films before we went to watch this one.
I like Julia Stiles very much more in this film. The hand held camera work made me nauseated.
I watched Order of the Phoenix last night. it was okay. not sure i could've kept reading the book if it was a whole lot longer and was as depressing as the movie was. definitely not one i'll watch again.
just finished Disturbia. Shia LeBouf really is outstanding, isn't he? it's a pretty good thriller movie. definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.
I saw three whole movies this week. Two were, to me, missable. But they were at a drive in (perfect for kids. You set up lawn chairs and when they had enough, they go sleep in the car.) Simpsons and that stupid, offensive Adam Sandler one
And then we watched Hot Fuzz last night. Now, usually? Anything gory played for chuckles turns me right off. I don't do horror, I don't do slasher. But this didn't. I really liked it and the subtle way it ramped up.
sarameg: if you haven't seen
Shaun of the Dead
you really oughtta. My sister hates horror movies and even she thought it was funny.
Finally got to see The Great Race after it was on the TiVo for several weeks.
Must-see stuff if you like slapstick comedy. Jack Lemmon was clearly having a grand old time as both the villain and the prince. Tony Curtis was clearly having an equally grand time as the hero. Ditto Natalie Wood as the suffragette girl.
Shake well and bake into a 2.5 hour slapstick comedy set around a New York to Paris auto race during the early 1900s.
To say any more would be spoiling unfairly.
I saw the trailer for Good Luck Chuck. I guess Dane Williams is looking to be Romantic Comedy Guy. Don't know but I'm going to pay $9 to see Jessica Alba walk into a iron post.

What, no love for Peter Falk?
Push the button Max!
Yes, Falk. The Brooklyn accent you could cut with a knife....
Falk didn't come across as enjoying himself quite as much. Probably because he was trying to become as big a star as the other three.
Hot Fuzz
may cross the line from clever to brilliant. I'm sure I missed a number of the references, but I did love it. Plus, hedgehog!
