Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Now tagless for your comfort.

So, we got a PS3 to use as a Blu-Ray player. Guess what I'm watching!

That's what we did, Jilli.

When I watched Underworld in blu-ray, I was entranced by the fact that Kate Beckinsale has pores.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What resolution are standard DVDs in?

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

640 x 480 (for NTSC. It's different for PAL). If a movie is in widescreen mode, then the pixels aren't square.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I thought all pixels were square! What are they, rectangular?

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Woot! Just saw on Criterion's site that they are putting out EUROPA (aka Zentropa) in December. As much as I've had huge issues with VonTrier since then, Zentropa was one of my favorite movies the year it came out.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

NTSC resolution is 720x486 (rectangular pixels) on a television set. On a computer displaying square pixels it's 640x480.

Art Crawl!!!

My brother and his family went East in September. I figured that they had just randomly decided to visit family (which they did) but actually - my SIL Mary had a screenplay entered in the DC Shorts film festival. And it won!

If only I had known - I could have announced it so that DCistas could go check it out.

The next Superman film will ignore the 2006 film and be a reboot. Warner hasn't said whether or not Bryan Singer will be involved.
