Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Did we see the One-sheet for Neuromancer?
please, please don't let this suck
Maybe I'm just annoyed by the trope of "aliens meet humans and are horrified by how violent and evil we all are".
I really want a movie where the aliens come in, accidentally introduce some virulent bug that kills off a bunch of people, and are horrified by the results of contact.

FUCK YEAH! my brother was telling me there was another one. he went to see...something and it was a trailer. i'm so excited.

Wait...you guys are serious? I thought they were supposed to be bad, mockable movies. I've wanted to see the first one for a while, though, because...it looks cool. I like movies that are both fast and furious, I think. Plus, explosions and hot chicks.
The trailer music is "We Are Rockstars," by Does It Offend You, Yeah? It's a fun song.
I am amused that they have named a sequel by simply removing articles.
Dude, I'd watch Walter Matthau read the phone book. I'd watch it twice if Jack Lemmon did N-Z. (not BNB is like that. it's not...it's funny.) Breaking Away...young Dennis Quaid. Yum! "Those are good arms to have."
The first Fast & Furious is great for what it is, which is a true B movie. It exists to entertain and that's what it does. I loves me a good B movie and so I really enjoyed it. You gotta like cars, though.
AWESOME!!!
I so adored the first F&F movie. That movie was on constant play at my apartment when I was in college. Such wonderful man/car porn to have on in the background as we all did... other things.
Vin Diesel! How I've missed you!
I'm an unabashed, unapologetic fan. I even watched The Pacifier and enjoyed it muchly, and loved Find Me Guilty. I enjoyed him in both Strays and Boiler Room, even if both films overall failed for me, and of course Pitch Black is probably one of my favorite sci-fi/"horror" movies. I'm even tempted to go see Babylon A.D. just so I can see him again on the big-screen, although the movie looks silly.
eta that while I'm not a car fan, or a racing fan, I loved all the loving imagery and the stunts and the awesome energy somehow conveyed when inside the cars. FUN!
i'm totally serious, P-C. the first one is really the only one that gets that reaction from me though. it's definitely mockable and not at all award worthy, but it's got hot guys(and girls), amazing stunts and fast cars. all good things in my book.
Count me in your corner, P-C - I avoided the F&tF movies because I heard the main appeal was UST between the men (and Vin in the first one). Not being a slash fan, UST is not a draw. I do like Vin at times, but not on the mere fact of his of his Vin-ness.
I would say the UST is on the level of Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in Point Break.
There's love and respect and loyalty, which made the flick that much more watchable for me, but I never saw it as slash. Just pure bum-knee, firing-your-gun-into-the-air, can't-turn-your-bestest-bud-in love/friendship.
