Indeed, Yojimbo was inspired by a Dashiel Hammett novel, filmed as a samurai western and remade as...wait for it...A Fistful of Dollars.
Yep, and Sanjuro was remade as For A Few Dollars More. And Kurosawa was deeply influenced by John Ford.
But I'm not going to push the Westerns or samurai movies unless there's interest. Frank's doing it for me!

Huh. I haven't seen Sanjuro yet (and it's been so long since I saw FaFDM that all I remember is how confusing it was to see Lee Van Cleef as essentially one of the "good" guys in that movie after having seen The Good, The Bad...etc.), so I didn't realize that FaFDM was a remake as well.
Also, if you've seen either
Yojimbo
or
A Fistful of Dollars,
catch
Fresh
which is the plot as interpreted in the African-American ghetto experience -- I HIGHLY recommend it.
Yojimbo kicks all kinds of ass. It's one of those rare movies that is simultaneously cerebral as hell and breathlessly action-packed. I think I first saw it in the late 90s, around 1997 or so, while I was going through a spaghetti western kick. And I've watched it pretty much once or twice a year ever since without any sort of diminishing marginal returns.

I feel like I need to do a mini film-fest now and watch them all back to back.
Corwood is going to start pimping The Wild Bunch to you, P-C. I can feel it. Resist his blandishments!
I already saw The Wild Bunch!
I do want to see
Yojimbo,
though.
See Yojimbo. And then rewatch The Wild Bunch. And repeat the whole cycle whenever needed. There's really no bad there.
Is Yojimbo the one with the two guys who were supposedly the inspiration for C3PO & R2D2?

No, that's the Hidden Castle? Something like that.
