Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

If people like podcasts, Slate's spoiler special (where they spoil movies) is up about The Love Guru.

Neither critic liked the film and they actually provide enough examples for me to realize - there ain't no way I'm going to see this movie. Curiosity will not kill this cat.

The examples of jokes that are in the movie are horrific. Just horrific.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

LIke Christopher Lee saying, roughly, "I'm an actor, people pay me to act."

Sally Field was once asked if she felt any shame about having played the Flying Nun. She replied. "I got paid for that role. Its the people who watched it for nothing who have something to be ashamed of." To tell you the truth I was one of the people who watched for nothing. I was eleven. What can I say?

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I'm watching Charade a bit at a time. Audrey Hepburn is so darling she makes my toes curl. I could swear they filmed in the same building where I changed money on a high school trip to Paris in 1986.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

To tell you the truth I was one of the people who watched for nothing. I was eleven. What can I say?

I can say I loved the thought of being able to use a hat to fly. How much awesomeness was that? Better than an umbrella!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Its the people who watched it for nothing who have something to be ashamed of.

What charming contempt. Was this before or after she was surprised people really liked her?

Before. Yeah, major respect for her fanbase.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

An interesting article on Wall-E, Pixar, and comparing Pixar's style to Dreamworks.

Why the fuck is Pixar making Cars 2? That's their least appealing movie.

I want Incredibles 2, dammit!
