What do you all think?
No Country For Old Men is near the top of my list.
But I haven't seen a lot of movies so I also want to see: Sweeney Todd, I'm Not There, Juno, Darjeeling Express (still barely hanging on in theaters here), and There Will Be Blood.
It's interesting, we've had two movies come out this year which were hailed as instant classics: No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood. That's unusual.
I'm also struck by how daring filmmakers were this year - not always successfully, but risks were taken: Southland Tales, I'm Not There, There Will Be Blood.

I saw
Sweeney Todd
on Saturday. I was familiar with the plot and general tone but had never seen the musical and, I have to say, I was really shocked by how deeply tragic the story is.

My main thought on Sweeney Todd for this morning is this: Anthony was so pretty that his thing for Johanna was femslash.
He was pretty and he sang pretty, too. Do you guys know that Victor Garber was the original Anthony? Check him out on Johanna [link] Spydaddy has some pipes.
I've got Garber on three soundtrack/OCR CDs--Godspell, Sweeney Todd, and Assassins (as well as the Carnegie Hall Tribute to Sondheim, where he sings his song from Assassins)--and his voice has really gotten much richer over the years.
I will confess to liking the tribute concert's rendition of "Johanna" more, though--it's one of the bonus tracks from that concert on the rereleased 1979 OCR CD set, along with a gorgeously sung "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" that I thought was worth the cost of the entire tribute album.
I loved Enchanted, so take that as you will.

is very high on my list of movies to see. After I finish the book.

the crush on Victor Garber. Well, on SpyDaddy, to be strictly accurate, but Mr Garber gets to bask in the halo of crush, what with having created that performance. And of course it's so disarming to know that, unlike SpyDaddy,
he can smile!
And sing! And dance! And be FABulous, dahling!
(Although probably not kill you with his pinky. Which is probably just as well.)
...actually, upon reflection my crush may be upon the entire SpyFamilyRobinson. Just - mostly on Dad and Mom. Because - gah.
