Yes I read that someplace else. Very sad.
Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
That poster reminds me of the creepily fantastic "Beware" poster for Dracula. May the movie more accurately correspond to the mood portrayed by the advertising this time around...
John C. Reilly playing Dewey Cox, the musician that's the subject for the upcoming fake biopic, "Walk Hard", covering Amy Winehouse's "Rehab", in character. [link] I think I broke something laughing. Also, the meta-ness of it kinda makes my head spin.
Is Amy Winehouse known in the US?
Sure, though how broadly I couldn't say.
I know of her through fannish song-sharing AND she seems to be a regular inhabitant of gossip news here, because she is so very much a talented trainwreck. But I literally don't know if she's had a US hit at all.
FWIW I'm still impressed with her singing, whatever her personal shortcomings.
She got nominated for a crapload of Grammys. I'd say she's known.
Huh. I've no idea why, but I hadn't expected her to have made a name for herself outside the UK. I suppose that's what having Universal as your label does for you.
I suspect having public meltdowns that make Britney Spears look like Donna Reed probably helped spread the fame a little, too.
I think Rehab has been her only hit over here. I was excited when someone brought a CD of hers in to work but disappointed when it seemed like all the songs sounded the same.
