Lydia: Its removal from Burma is a felony and when triggered it has the power to melt human eyeballs. Giles: In that case I've severely underpriced it.

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I've seen Boys Don't Cry and Leaving Las Vegas. While Audition fascinates me by dint of its reputation, Million Dollar Baby is the only other film on the list that I have a real desire to see.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I'd add Araki's Mysterious Skin to that list. Absolutely stunning movie. We even bought it. But we can't quite bring ourselves to watch it again...

When the Wind Blows scared the everloving shit out of me when I was a kid - I still can't watch it to this day. What they were doing showing it in a primary school, I do not know.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

When the Wind Blows scared the everloving shit out of me when I was a kid - I still can't watch it to this day. What they were doing showing it in a primary school, I do not know.

I'm thinking they showed it to us in high school. It's the only way to see it that makes sense for me.

Gutting.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I've been trying to remember under what circumstances I saw it, and I can't. Must have been some kind of special showing. It's not the kind of thing I would have caught on Bargain Night at the multiplex.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

On that list, I've seen The Passion of Joan of Arc, Safe and Boys Don't Cry, and I'd be very, very willing to see any of them again -- well, maybe only one "very" for JoA, since it was such a harrowing experience for the lead actress and I'm not particularly supportive of dickish directorial mindgame-playing. But the other two, oh my yes, anytime.

We have a borrowed copy of Grave of the Fireflies at home right now, but I'm beginning to think that I really shouldn't watch it.
