Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Jessica, my response to that is "Oh, fuck off. Welcome to being a minority. Please keep up."

Okay, I'm a bit snappish, but you can read most anything into anything, and he's not revealing much other than his own issues by doing so.

When I can't tell what's going on, how am I to tell he's being creative, and it's not just an accidental splicing of film?

Dunno. I didn't have any problem with it. I was just surprised to see a devaluation of conveying raw experience. Some storytellers should be so lucky. Hell, more should.

I can't say as I had a problem with the previous Bourne movies. All I thought was that if you were going to make any movies out of Ludlum books, those would be the best choice. I'm looking forward to that one and to Ratatouille. We'll see which one I can talk my dad and/or my nephew into going to see.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

If Ratatouille is about Jewish assimilation X-Men is about homophobia. Oh, wait. Maybe art is what we bring to it.

Yeah, I'm excited. When I saw it in the theatre, it physically affected me; I could feel my entire body tense up. I hope the movie lives up to the promise.

Bourne fights kinda kravlike. I dig that.

I was hooked on the Bourne series after that first fight with the French cops rousting him from the bench. They were hassling Bourne.... Bourne just wanted to be left alone.... then one of them touched him and all of the sudden both cops were flipping around in painful-looking, crunchy-sounding, the-body-isn't-meant-to-move-like-that ways, and half a second later, Bourne was standing over two unconscious cops with a surprised look on his face and one of their guns in his hand.

That was the point of no return.

And I know that some people have problems assimilating the shakey, frenetic camera style of the car chase at the end of 2, but I always like that sort of thing, and agree with ita that it is meant to convey raw experience. Yes, it's also meant to showcase Bourne's extreme craftiness, and yes the film is maybe not so successful at that during the chase for some people, because of said visual style. But it is also intended to convey raw experience as well, and at that it is very successful.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

I always like that sort of thing, and agree with ita that it is meant to convey raw experience.

I'm totally willing to like it. It's Matt Damon! I'd watch him do a lot of things. The choice is taken out of my hands, however, when I'm busy trying not to hurl.
