Not an immortal and miraculous Hamlet for the ages, but perfectly solid and presentable and unembarrassing. Their disappointment at his unexpected competency was crushing.
From the reviews of that play, and from the adeptness he's shown at other comic roles, I'd love to see him attack Dogberry or Bottom or some other comedic low character. Something where the whole play's not riding on him and he can be completely uninhibited and gleeful. I think that's when he works best.

Personally, I think he can act. Really. He's a very specific type of actor, but give him the right role and he's great it. Example - the first Matrix.

I'll take people's word for it that Keanu once had the ability to speak. I'll make a point to see River's Edge and Johny Mneumonic at some point.
You might wanna replace the latter with My Own Private Idaho or Parenthood instead. When I said something positive about Keanu's performance in Johnny Mnemonic I didn't mean to imply that the movie itself was watchable.
Though it is the one time Dolph Lundgren revealed he could act instead of just growl and hit people. It's a shame there just aren't as many crazy bionic street preacher roles as there used to be.

I, too, find Canoe watchable, but I just accept that he's got a limited range that he should be more careful working around, but I understand he really does LOVE SF and comic books like unto a gigundous geek.
