I'm going to see to Wesley, see if he's still whimpering.

Always Anti-fascist!

My grandma was that crazy. And that devoted to a fake image like Betty's, only she didn't have it and never could afford it.Some of it might have had a gender basis, but Grandma...well, she was so not okay that when my mom watched Dr. Melfi tell Tony Soprano that Livia had borderline personality, the way my mother grew up snapped into place. If that wasn't Weiner's intention with Betty, it seems that he might have overplayed his hand by quite a bit. Of course, I've barely watched any of last season's episodes so...

The EN-LH dialogue that David posted is really interesting.

There's a newish Vulture interview up now, with Rich Sommer, who plays Harry Crane.

A Seinfeld rerun last night had Bobbie from Mad Men in it! I hope I'm getting the name right -- I mean the redheaded woman who was in the car accident with Don; the one who he, um, grabbed in the hotel hallway, who has the obnoxious husband. In Seinfeld, she hit a parked car and drove off, and Jerry chased her down. She made out with him. She has a very distinctive voice.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Very interesting essay on Betty from Sady at Tiger Beatdown.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

That is a really good essay!

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Yes indeed -- thanks for bringing it to my attention, because I think it crystalizes a lot of my understanding of Betty to what I've been trying to say.

Always Anti-fascist!

I'm finally watching Season 2 now, and Betty's dad called her "Scarlett". She reminds me of her, really. Definitely the denial and the taste for being admired(taste, hell, it dominates her life, although she can be quite charming if she makes the effort or the planets align in her way.)If you read the book, Scarlett's not a good mother either...petty and indifferent and snappish...in her mind she's always got a good reason, though, and some day she thinks she's going to be the perfect, kind-hearted lady she would have been if that damn war hadn't shown up.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

For Leverage peeps: Beth Riesgraf was a bunny for Halloween. Adult women should not be that freakin' cute.

Always Anti-fascist!

She's so cute...not very Parkerish, though. Parker would have to dress as Clovis.

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

Oh, oh, oh! New Leverage starts December 12th. The tv promo looks fun. Happy now.
