I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Mrs. Real!Draper could spin a pretty good tale out of half-truths - we were young, he was going off to war and we got married in a rush, when he came back we hardly knew each other and separated but we didn't legally divorce until he met you and fell in love. If she would want to is another question.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I can't imagine what cover story she'd be able to come up with on the spot if Betty showed up with her divorce papers.

I can't imagine what cover story she'd be able to come up with even if she had weeks to figure it out. Isn't the truth the best "cover" in this case?

"Yes we're divorced, I don't care to discuss it."

Of course, Betty will probably lie and tell her that Don told her to come.

I would think the hardest thing in the box to explain would be the two sets of dog tags.

Would Betty necessarily think they require explanation? Her dad had WWII souvenirs.

I think that would be easy. "These are the dog tags of my friend Dick. He didn't make it"

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

"These are the dog tags of my friend Dick. He didn't make it"

That wouldn't explain why he had "Dick Whitman"'s childhood photos, but I agree - from Betty's POV, the Don Draper divorce documents are the bigger question mark.

well, he could say some stuff about how he kept the stuff when Dick died, couldn't bring himself to throw it out, etc.

How does he not know that the keys to his secret drawer are gone? And what happens when he realizes?

Betty put the keys back in his bathrobe pocket. He'll never know they were missing unless she confronts him.

Yes, his own. Why would he have some other guys tags? Why wouldn't they have gone to Dick's family? Dog tags are not just a memento, they are proof of identification.
