The amctv.com open thread was the same way. It was like "Don's totally getting grifted, man," with equal parts of "OMG, Naked Don!"

Whereas I was all luxuriating in their Felliniesque decadence.

Clearly, these folks have also never read big, glittery roman à clefs ala Judith Krantz or Jacqueline Susann.

The other odd take in the blogs is presuming it's all a dream sequence of some kind.

Funny, I wrote a post saying the same thing and then deleted it. Yeah, the last paragraphs of The Sound And The Fury are beautiful, but not exactly revelatory. At least, any more revelatory than the rest of the book.

I think I saw that in an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show. There was wackiness.

But maybe they just have more money than sense.

I'm still trying to decode some of the stuff dealing with that. Don asked at dinner if they were well-off and got silence. That could either mean they refused to answer because it was considered a crass question or they didn't have a good answer because they're all a big pile of mooches. But then Joy said they move around for tax purposes. I haven't figured that one out yet, doubt I will as my knowledge of tax law is nil.

BTW, how much do I love buffistas that so many of us were appalled that Don defaced the Faulkner novel.
