Cable Drama: Still Waiting for the Cable Guy to Show Up with the Thread Name...
To be determined... (but it's definitely [NAFDA])
Ooohhhhh!
If ltc cooperates, we should be catching yesterdays episode tonight. It is usually appointment TV in our house, but we watched the Academy Awards last night instead.
So I watched the pilot of Underground last night. It's full of genre actors: Aldis Hodge, Adina Porter, Reed Diamond, and Marc Blucas are all in it. I thought it was good, if not great. Has potential, and one of the things I liked was how focused it is on the black characters. This isn't a white view of the slave experience: it's their own view.
I think this could be really interesting.
I saw it for free on Amazon Prime, I don't know if the rest of the season will be free.
People v. OJ Simpson, anyone?
My main question is if it's just because I haven't seen the actor in anything else that I think the guy playing Darden is the absolute best. I mean, lots of them are great, but I'm constantly thinking about the actor playing the real person.
Haven't been here in ages, The People vs. OJ was terrific. I remember it happening but I wasn't into following it; I just remember a few friends talking about it. Sarah Paulson was terrific. Agree, the guy playing Dardon was really good and so was Courtney B. Vance as Johnny Cochran. Travola did a good job of glowering as Shapiro. Marcia Clark did an interesting interview with Variety? No, Hollywood Reporter. [link]
I've got a backlog of Better Call Saul and just started to watch them. What a good show. Like Breaking Bad, they have these terrific camera angles, like seeing Saul drop something into a bin/onto the camera. There's a lot of stillness in many of the scenes they film. Now I can't think of an example, of course, but I've always had the opinion that one of the many reasons that Downton Abbey was so popular is that their camera was often steady and still - it gave one the opportunity to really look at something.
The Walking Dead... not thrilled that Carol is having a moral breakdown - she'd better be okay by next season! - and I'm glad that Morgan is doing more than brooding around with his stick and building a jail cell. I love the actor, whose character was so kick ass and competent in his role in Jericho. I hope Carl and Daryl get haircuts next season, so sick of their greasy and floppy hair. I read in an interview that Charlize Theron is the one who came up with the shaved head for Furiosa, saying, she wouldn't want to be bothering with hair, you know? You would think that people fleeing zombies in Georgia heat would want to have short hair or almost no hair also.
The Night Manager is playing on AMC in the U.S. Shall we discuss it here?
This season of Bates Motel was excellent. I watched it over the last three days.
And I watched the most recent half season of Suits today. It was good, but I think it needs to end soon before it jumps the shark.
