Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I like that Boudain walks the walk. He's an adamant carnivore, but will go to the cow slaughter or the deer hunt before eating the meat.

And yet even he sounded a bit guilty about the seal. Didn't stop him from eating it, though.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

And yet even he sounded a bit guilty about the seal.

I think it was that the whole experience was so alien to him; but you could tell he deeply respected these people and their customs and what they needed to do to survive.

If he'd refused eating it, I think he thought it would be a sign of disrespect.

I thought that whole sequence was quite interesting and thought provoking.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

So, the Dallas Diva is mad at the bad things people were saying about her (NFNS):

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

If he'd refused eating it, I think he thought it would be a sign of disrespect.

I think that's what I love about Bourdain. He may be the king of snark, but in his travel show he is never disrespectful to someone that is feeding him.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I like that Boudain walks the walk. He's an adamant carnivore, but will go to the cow slaughter or the deer hunt before eating the meat.

Also the source of my current tagline. It's his description of vegetarians "and their Hezbollah-like splinter group, the vegans." This inspired the blog Hezbollah Tofu [link] , dedicated to veganizing Bourdan's recipes.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

All this Bourdain talk is making me want to resurrect my old Bourdain tag ("Reeducation has its limits. And her French ways and lack of blondeness pose a serious problem in future.").

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

Not to change the subject from the food shows (it's getting close to dinner time here on the east coast, and you just keep reminding me I'm hungry! Except for the visuals of Bourdain's extreme adventures in dining.):

For those of us who watch MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew," this Saturday from 2-4:30 p.m. (eastern) they are going to be showing the Casting Special. It looks like that will be the live broadcast, but they will be repeating the bejeezus out of it. I absolutely could not find a link anywhere on their site, but they have the little blobby watermark-type thing up in the corner of the screen on the MTV channel, and the program shows up on the zap2it grid.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

So it's the fourth season of that show? Who won besides Amy and Guy?
