Once again I am less than impressed with the songs they chose. And I'm not a huge Webber fan. But I would have loved to see someone do "Take That Look Off Your Face." And I would have settled for "Close Every Door", "Tell Me on a Sunday", or even "Another Suitcase in Another Hall."

Well, at least we were spared three Phantom songs.

Thanks for the recap, kat! I missed Idol last night. Completely forgot about even though I was home in time. I got caught up on LJ, instead.

I did turn it on for a few minutes this morning with breakfast and caught Syesha singing for ALW. She sounded very good so I'm looking forward to hearing her actual stage version. The gals at my Starbuck's are gaga over the DCook. They thought he was awesome. So, while I trust kat's analysis to a large degree, I also get the "OMG, he is such a tool" part, too, and how that affects it. I just don't think he can have the vocal range and power for Music of the Night, but he could surprise me. The rest of them, don't. Surprise me. I think any of them could go home. Whether I like it or not (and I don't hate the idea, but I wish we had some stronger contenders to give him a run for his money), DCook has this one wrapped. Still, I'm curious to see who America thinks is the next one who should go.

I had to grudgingly give it up to D.Cook last night, Sail. He was solid vocally for most of Music of the Night. The last note was a travesty but the big money note in the middle (. . .soul take you where you want to BEEEEEEE) was lovely. I just flat out dislike him, though, so . . .

I do think he'll win. And I'll be sad. But, I've been sad before with the winner and yet, I keep coming back. Unca Nigel's really got me hooked.

Finally caught up with Idol. I think everyone except Jason did a great job on their songs. But DCook did blow the competition out of the water. I didn't think the could pull it off and it was galaxies better than I thought he do. Wowza. And Syesha really should be on Broadway. She hit that sucker dead on. D'Archie did a great job with the song, but while he took a chance and sang a "girl's" song, it's still very much in the style of every song he's sung. I really want to hear him do blues, or jazz, or head banging rock. He's a glorified lounge singer. Sweet as all heck, but replaceable with any other sweet as all heck lounge act. Carly was interesting. She wasn't bad, and she had a good grip on what the song was about, but somehow between singing a few phrases for Webber and showing up on the stage, something got lost in translation. Brooke, very nice, but her starting and stopping kind of threw me off. I kept waiting for her to fuck up again, so it was hard to concetrate on what she did right. And Jason, well, he sang, poor schmuck.

can anyone explain to me what's so special about Leona Lewis? she sounds like every other pop/R&B artist out there to me.

I'm a little surprised Brooke is safe. I like her, but I felt her start/stop last night would hurt her. Guess not! Poor Syesha, though. I thought she did better than nearly anyone, but DCook. It's like folks like her just enough, and one of these times it won't be.

Only one on the hot spot right now, Bonny, and that's Syesha. We still have Jason and Carly backstage. So we're still waiting for the other one of the bottom two.
