I like the way the walls go out. Gives you an open feeling. Firefly is a good design. People don't appreciate the substance of things. Objects in space. People miss out on what's solid.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Hm, I don't remember Helene's original concept. The dress she ended up with was pretty enough, but way more red carpet than avant garde.

I agree, Bradon's was the only actual avant garde. I didn't mind the white since he was evoking the movement of butterflies with the bobbing of the thingies more than referencing actual butterflies. And it was just gorgeous. Probably would have been gorgeous in color, too, but it's not like it looked bridal or washed out.

I did think Justin's dress was really beautiful and unusual. I generally don't get Alexandria; even the things the judges point out as particularly good, I can't see it. Her reworked plaid pants were pretty cute. I never did figure out where that 3rd print was in Dom's "avant garde" look, but her reworked piece was awfully good.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I really think it shows a lack of creativity (or boldness? point of view?) when everything is all black.

Also, lack of understanding how the program works.

Because books.

I couldn't figure out Dom's third print either! Maybe the jacket was lined?

Also, lack of understanding how the program works.

The thing is, I love a black anything. I buy a lot of black. But it just looks crappy on camera. Even from the judges' seats it can be hard to "see" or so they've said.

I guess I just always expect much bolder choices from aspiring designers. When you look at what some of them do compared to McQueen or other really high fashion designers, the contestants start to look like pageant-dress makers to me.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

TLo thought Dom's should have won by a mile. Which I thought was a really interesting perspective. They didn't think that any of them were avant garde at all.

I thought Helen's was terrible. I thought she and Justin should have been cut based on those garments. I don't like Alexandria at all so I would have been fine with a final 2 with Bradon and Dom.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I really think it shows a lack of creativity (or boldness? point of view?) when everything is all black.

*looks down at own clothes* Oh well.

Alexandria's problem is that she seems so obsessed with making things "cool" that her designs always come across a little desperate. Though I actually did love her avant garde look. (Growing up goth-ish in the age of grunge...how could I not?)

Because books.

I meant as a designer, Jess, not as a consumer. Like I said, my wardrobe is more than 50% black, too.

Seriously -- all black everything is great! But not on the PR stage.

Because books.

It's going to be pretty late, I think.
