Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

OK, so I just caught up on LAST week's SYTYCD earlier this week. And I liked a LOT of it, which was awesome...but OMG, it mostly made me go "DAMN, I want to see the show "So You Think You Can Dance With Mark" LOVE HIM.

And now this week's show...finally...

I really liked the opening number! It reminded me some of a Twyla Tharp piece I saw at the ballet, kinda. But so very Cheesman.

Paul: I like this a lot better than most Tasty stuff? That's not a high compliment. But I dig Paul. He's very versatile. I liked his facial expressions during this. Which seems silly, but...yeah. (And I LOVED Comfort last week)

Haley: WTF is Joshua wearing? Otherwise, it was OK. Won't super stand out in my memory.

Fikshun's whole family thing is super cute. And I definitely enjoy him in his solos. And he's so cute. I just don't think he's the best dancer.

Aaron: (aww, yay Melanie) I am somehow not sold on Aaron. I've liked him a lot in a lot of things. And I don't especially love this number. Though I liked her scissor kick lift thing. And then he DROPPED HER. OMG.

Jasmine--I like her solo better than Amy's.

Paul--OK, he's trying in his solo, and started off with some stuff that was better than a lot of the Latin kids can do solo. But wow, those first couple seconds looked super super gay. As in "is he preening before about to go twerk it while hopped up on Ecstasy at the club?" :)

Fikshun: Foxtrot? Oh dear. I don't hate the choreo, and they're making good use of what he CAN do, but oh man do the closed-hold parts look awkward. And there's not much of that. (Wow, he can leap and click his heels high up!)

Hayley: don't love the solo.

Jasmine: Well, he is tall. But oh, the concept. Tasty, I do not want to hear what you think of hurricanes. I think she's pretty lovely in this, but I mostly hate him. Some of that is the choreo, but geez.

Aaron: I don't really love the solo. I keep feeling like his shoulders are weird, now that they keep pointing them out.

Amy: (yay Alex!) At different points I felt like each of them was really killing it, but at a lot of points they didn't seem to be quite together. OTOH, drawing my attention from Alex is pretty impressive! (OW, that knee thing looked painful) Also, I would love to have her abs. Dang, girl. And yes, I was definitely like "eek, don't break the Alex again!!"

Paul/Haley: Why is there something on his wrist in the rehearsal footage? Is he broken too? SHOW! STOP BREAKING DANCERS! I like him, don't like her. WTF is with trying to say people should hook up? So wrong. (Though Paul is definitely a cutie!!)

Amy/Fikshun: Eh

Aaron/Jasmine: This is...not the song I was expecting! OMG how do her legs do that? That just looks unnatural and painful. I do not love this like I want to.

I actually thought Mary said “Dance is just your pole.”

I think she said "pulse"?

I do love JTF. He's hilarious but on point.

Fik-Shun sure is adorable and really stunning in his style, and who really needs to be able to foxtrot in life? I'd love to see him in 6-7 years, with more training. 18 is too young.

Yes. Though he will always be super-short, which limits him. The show really did him a favor not making him dance with tall girls!!

Also, every single time I see him I think that they could do an all-stars version of SYTYCD and he would totally win.

I think I would be rooting for Mark, but America would vote for Alex, and I wouldn't hate too bad. (I WANT TO SEE THIS, FOX)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Did any of the other BB watchers get the feeling that the reason they trotted out Dan and the lovebirds was a way of showing that not all houseguests are racist bully perverts?

I do think they always trot out previous HGs at some point, and Jeff is probably not the best person to represent the good guys? (Not that his shit ever got to tv.)

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

If we could have seen him handle his big woman (can you imagine him and Jasmine dancing together?) he would have gone up a lot in my estimation, that's for sure.

On I know. It just seemed to me that especially with Dan, the main reason he was there was to bag on Amanda.

As one should

Project Runway: once again, I don't love any of the designs. I don't hate any of them either. A lot of meh.

Some of the shoes are really nice, although when I saw those gladiator sandal boot things had knee pads - ugh. Do not like.

The contestants talking about how now they don't have that "maybe Tim will save me" in the back of their minds made me feel better it, but I hope they don't keep that element next season.

Braden really should have gone with his instinct to dress down those flats, fighting that was a mistake he never recovered from. And Jeremy's faux-cable sweater was misguided - also just a bad idea. But I'm fine with who went home - that look wasn't terrible but she's never done anything I really liked, so whatever. I don't get what she's trying to do, whether or not she's successful.

Michael Kors next week! How cute is Tim in referee stripes?

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Yes, those flats would have been so cute with some cigarette pants and a great jacket.

Yes!

Because books.

I love Bradon. I was willing to see what he did with the dress, but it wasn't right for the shoes. If he had more time to finesse that technique in a full dress, with the right shoes, I think it could be interesting.

I'm at that point where I want a black fabric moratorium for at least a season, too. Speaking of, I was really underwhelmed by Helen's dress. It looked really well made but it was sort of nothing to me.

Yeah, it seemed like the judges mostly liked the capelet. And that was pretty cool and it's probably not super easy to figure out how to get the length and volume exactly right, which I do think she did. I don't know what was modern about it, but I never know what is modern about anything.

I'm with you on the black fabric moratorium, Amy. It's just hard to see why this black dress is better than that black dress on TV.

Hey! (Obligatory goth protest.)

But for PR, that makes sense. Showing design details on black fabric is difficult.
