I thought it was a beautiful dance but from the costumes to the movement, it was so derivative of Ailey. It was like watching Tasty choreograph Broadway while just doing a poor man's version of Fosse. I don't mind if you are inspired by other choreographers, but bring something new to the table. If I were Ailey's lawyer, I'd be readying my lawsuit. That was my problem with it. Also, Amy and Hayley were distracting because they were wrong for the style of the dance. It didn't suit them, although both of them on their own are lovely dancers.

Jasmine and Aaron are made for each other. They're my new Melanie and Marko.

Yes, they should just dance together all the time. Definitely in the pantheon of great SYTYCD couples with Melanie and Marko, Joshua and Katee, Benji and Donyelle . . . all that there.

Hayley and Joshua/Hip Hop/Work Hard, Play Hard/Whiz Khalifa – Lots of messing about at the beginning that I could’ve done without. But Hayley is hitting it harder than I thought she could at the beginning. Joshua is a beast up there. He’s totally outdancing her without even trying. She is giving it a good go, but she just looks so wrong next to Joshua because he looks so effortlessly right. It’s also unfortunate that this is following on the Katy Perry VMAs performance because now I can’t see anything else. That was not a bad routine from NappyTab though. Hard hitting grooves and a little stank on it. Joshua is still the cutest thing ever. Hayley was not terrible. She made it through this hip hop much better than her last outing with Chris Scott. She lost energy about halfway through but she was giving it.

Fik Shun/Look at Me Now/Chris brown, Lil Wayne and Busta -. Great music choice (just have to hold my nose and take Chris Brown’s presence on the track) and he is just killing it. Delightful solo as always. He is a wonderful popper. I could’ve seen a lot more of that.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I can't even read "Melanie and Marko" in my head without it being in Cat's voice.

BTW, wasn't Cat saying "the performance finale next week" last week?

Aaron and Melanie/Broadway/Faith/George Michael – Oh, yay. Spencer Liff Broadway is usually lots of fun and I think these two will work well together. Loving the curly Melanie hair in the rehearsal footage and then they went and flat ironed it for the performance show. I just love watching Aaron dance. He’s just amazing. So masculine and yet great extension. Great toe point. Supple feet and legs. He’s such a throwback dancer. I absolutely did not enjoy this choreo, however. Too much character work and it felt unearned. It might work in an actual show, but this is not a show so it just feels cheesy. And oops, total miss on the hand connection and she fell. They played it off as well as they could, but it was really, really obvious. Wow. I was hoping to like that more than I did. With all that, I thought Nigel piled on a little bit with the critique. And then Mary comes on with the opportunity to clear the air about the shoulder. The seams are showing, Nigel and Co.

Jasmine/Outro (Amazing Grace)/ Destiny’s Child. – I loved the movement quality she was giving, but she was also a little frantic. But the deep plies she was putting down were life affirming. Loved the last pencil turn, too. That was nice.

Paul/Mamba Negra/Huecco – Aww. Poor ballroom kids. They try. It’s just not meant to be for them with solos. They don’t know how. And this with the fact that Paul is clearly cross trained in many other styles. I assume that the show makes them dance in their style for their solos

Fik Shun and Witney/Fox Trot/Sexy Silk/Jessie J – Jonathan Roberts is the choreographer. He’s sometime-y. Fast, sexy Fox Trot? I’m already nervous. Fox Trot is supposed to be dreamy and romantic. Ugh. From the start, that was really bad posture on Fik Shun. I mean just really terrible. Pancake hands. The footwork is awful. Wow. He’s really bad in this. Witney I doing her level best to distract, but He’s really not good here. I hope the judges give it to him. And putting a glide in the dance? Umm no Jonathan Roberts. I object. Mary tried to soft pedal it, but that was just really bad. I’m glad she did critique but she should’ve come much harder. JTF was funny and also right that Witney was dominating him and definitely leading. White man’s overbite. Ha!

Hayley/Be Mine/Robyn – Typical competition dance hair flinging and tricks. I’m never impressed with her solos. That’s all.

Jasmine and Neil/Contemporary/Unfaithful/Unfaithful – OK, so this is about tsunami suffering? Oh, Tasty. Why? And no. The wind and the trash blowing across the stage, ugh. I’m annoyed already. That aside, Jasmine and Neil were giving it. The little hook with the flexed feet into a balance where they were just holding on by their legs was so difficult. Any little balance break and they both would have gone down hard. I loved the slow, contemplative movement with all the held extensions. The lifts were super difficult. Other Jasmine has really surprised me because she wasn’t a pre-finals favorite of mine.

Aaron/Use Me/Bill Withers – Loved it. Loved everything about it. Loved the suit and the hat and the man and mmmph. That’s the way I like it, honey.

Amy and Alex/Bollywood/Munni Badnaam Hu Darling – Nakul. This makes me so nervous because Bollywood was the style Alex blew his Achilles out on during his season. Handle with care, Nakul. I just want to watch Alex Wong do everything He’s so precise. So energetic. So magnetic. He was killing it. I confess, I was not watching Amy. She seemed to be doing really well. But I didn’t care. It’s all about Alex for me. He was ruling my world right there. Those knee spins looked so hard and they did about a million of them. Wow. There were a lot of spins and leaps in that routine. I think Amy did a great job, but did I mention I don’t care. Alex Freakin’ Wong for the win! I do agree with Nigel that I think this was the hardest Bollywood they’ve had. And Alex was so cute. He has been raring to do Bollywood, people. Love him!

Because books.

Yeah, wait -- is next week it? Or will a final four compete?

I miss two episodes a week! It was less confusing!

Jasmine's extension -- is that the word? when she has one leg straight up, and her legs make one long vertical line -- is so perfect. I am love with this girl's legs. And smile!

Alex Freaking Wong...Shirtless!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let the church say AMEN!

I think next week is the final performance show but not the finale but I could be totally making that up. I agree that the only one night thing is super confusing. It seems like they need one more performance night and then another week of voting and then a finale where the winners are crowned based on America's vote for their favorite guy and girl dancer.

Hayley and Paul/Contemporary/I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – Dee Casprey always looks a little deranged. That was lovely, children. Just lovely. Paul has such a great movement quality in contemporary. It’s really kind of extraordinary. He’s really dancing down into the floor. And Hayley is a great technician. She’s kind of an empty vessel, but her technique is flawless. I’m loving all the experimentation with flexed feet going on from the choreographers this year. That was a gorgeous piece. I really felt it with the two of them. Gorgeous. JTF busting on Carly Rae Jepsen’s stint on the panel was golden. He’s such a lobster. Suck on it, Nigel. The flexed foot was genius. Mary is right that Paul is an amazing partner. He gives to his partner in the performance while also managing to involve the audience. That’s a rare gift for a dancer.
