Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I don't understand why they are giving the designer's so much less time to do their collection. It's asking for mediocrity.

Yeah, I don't like that at all. The contrast between what they do in a rush during the season and what they do when they have time to think and plan is what has always made the final collection interesting to me. Without that, we get a lot of blah. A lot of those finale collections were showing us, as Nina used to say, just clothes.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

they only had 5 weeks to do all of those looks! good grief.

they need to give them at least 8 weeks if not 10.

Lifetime is cutting the budget in areas that make for an inferior show.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I think it might be interesting (although like one of the failed imitators, right?) to have them use some of the stuff they did during the season in the final collection. You have to pick three, say, and develop the rest of a collection around that. At least it would be fewer things to design, if they aren't going to give them a real amount of time to do it.

Didn't they do that once? Or they had to use leftover fabric or something? Maybe that was just a regular challenge. Or maybe that was another show.

Could be interesting. And seeing stuff we've seen before might not be so annoying if we have literally seen that actual garment before.

Oh yeah, the leftover fabric was from the first All-Star season, I think.

And I can't believe they are going right into another All-Star season this week! I don't believe there are actually that many Stars.

Me neither. I certainly need a break, and none of the All Stars from the promos are making me want to watch, so I think I'll sit this one out.

I'll at least half-ass sitting it out -- not tape it, but possibly watch on-demand....

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Hmph. Finally caught up on PR and I have to say I don't understand what the judges like. I thought Dmitry's collection was weird and awkward looking. Fabio's was far and away the best in terms of design whether or not I would personally wear any of the clothes. (Melissa's were the ones I wanted to wear, no surprise. Upscale Semi-Goth With High Collars is so very very much my comfort zone.)

But still, I thought Fabio should have won. Everyone else just made clothes. He put on a runway show.

I agree, Jessica.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Caught up on TAR and agree on all points.

Long Hair Don't Care is going to be in much better physical shape next episode, even if their task was time consuming because they just didn't get so beat physically. I was surprised that the fish in a barrel task didn't take longer for some of those teams. Maybe it was clear which bags had been rifled through.

But yeah, those are the legs I wouldn't be that great at. Navigation in a crowded city, lots of seriously physical labor.

And I like the twinnies despite the incessantness of their cheerleading. I would probably have asked them to chill a bit if I were their opposition, but when they didn't, you can hardly blame them, because it was all positive! But it would definitely have been wearing if you were right there. I think I would have been okay with it because of my highly developed teacher skill of tuning shit out.

I also like the Chippendales. Something about the combination of their accent and their enthusiasm. They talk about a temper, but I haven't really seen it yet. Maybe next week?
