So I just finally got a chance to watch the Mia SYTYCD. I was...disappointed, mostly. I felt like pretty much every one of the dances was better in the original. And I kept seriously disagreeing with the judges and being like "What crack are you smoking?!" (though part of it was me going "EW, DEAD DADDY DANCE"). Nigel was on weird stuff "Do you know how old she was when her dad died? Do you know what he did?"
And then they sent Amelia and PoorMan'sGosling home! BOO. I actually enjoyed the Amelia/Will booty dance more than the original, which is more than I can really say for the rest of them. I'm fine with them keeping George, but really not happy about the girls (though I also would've liked to keep Amber last week, so)
I also went to see Step Up Revolution, and was horribly disappointed. There were like, six good minutes in the whole movie (dancing, dancing, and a few moments of Twitch, because he's adorable). The plot was RIDICULOUS. And I'm judging on the low standards that these plots usually have. Some of the dancing was cool. But I couldn't stop rolling my eyes.
I was wondering while watching SYTYCD, is there not any kind of rule against professional dancers? Seems like already being a dancer for Cirque de Soleil or a major ballet company would be a pretty clear indicator that person can, indeed, Dance, and is already getting paid to do so. I get that it helps their careers to be on national TV, but why allow them in the competition? Seems like a slightly unfair field to start with.
I think this is an interesting question/point. I mean, sure, mostly it's been ballet dancers, and ballet hasn't been a big part of the show, but...still.
Alex has announced he's coming back as an All Star, so that'll be fun!
