You know, I am really just enjoying me some American Idol. It is surprisingly good this season, right? And it just got better now that DeAndre and all his hair and his shaky falsetto are gone. I was surprised that he went home. I'd have bet money on Hollie or Elise, but sometimes 14 year old girls surprise you. So now we are left with a pretty decent set of contenders. Here are my favorites, in order of awesomeness on the Kat-o-meter:

Jessica Sanchez/Bibi Chez - Cannot get enough of this little diva and I normally hate 16 year olds on Idol because they give off a grown up Toddlers and Tiaras vibe. But this girl can really sing. I do wish she would stop singing Whitney and also maybe stop pretending like every performance is the BET awards. Other than that, she's alright with me . . . and it's long past time that we finally had another girl Idol winner. Will she win? I doubt it. I mean, I like her, but really isn't she kinda like a soulful version of Vickie the robot girl from Small Wonder? Right? Right?

Elise Testone - I love her voice and I have enjoyed every single one of her performances, even last night although I must agree with Grandpa Steven that the Foreigner song was not the best choice she could have made. She doesn't need to be reinforcing the fact that she is old as the hills (in Idol time) by pulling out this worn out song. Like some 12 year old is going to be so transfixed by I Wanna Know What Love Is that they'll get off twitter long enough to text in a vote for someone old enough to be their teacher. Not likely. Lovely singer, though. She should've gone on The Voice instead.

Skylar Laine - I know that this girl is all nasally up in her nasal as the late, great Paula Abdul would have said, but I just like her. She is a firecracker. I thought her version of Wind Beneath My Wings was sassy and well sung. She definitely sounded better than the Pickle and she has a record deal and a really bad song about Tammy Wynette now, so why not Skylar? That said, she won't win because a country kid just won last year and Idol hates to repeat itself.

Joshua Ledet - Not every song is a gospel song. Just because Tommy Hilfiger told you it was a good idea does not mean that it actually is a good idea to wear clothes that are a couple sizes too small for you. Look at Tommy Hilfiger. He looks like Gollum. Would you take fashion advice from Gollum? I hope not. Also, stop screaming at me. People seem to like him but I don't know why.

Phillip Phillips - And I believe he is even a Jr. Really? I do not get this kid. He seems like a Dave Matthews wannabe . . . you know if Dave Matthews could not consistently sing on key. And the face fuzz parading itself as a beard is all the way out of control. Just now. And he is keeping it soooo real that all his clothes have to look like they came from the Old Navy sale rack? (Not that there is anything wrong with the Old Navy sale rack. I shop there often myself. Then again, I'm not trying to be a pop star) I hate those real-er than thou contestants. Oh, you are too good to shake hands with the AI sway-bots in the front row? Bitch, please. Why did he even come on the show then? It's been on for a million years. Everybody knows what it's about. If he wins, I will be quite displeased.

Hair Boy - He's so bad I can't even remember his name. Every song is an emo nightmare that makes me want to claw my eardrums out with a rusty nail. Oh, Colton. His name just came to me! Still hate him. But people also seem to love him a lot. People are strange.

Hollie - The only thing worse than her inability to find the pitch is her on again/off again British accent. What is that about and why doesn't her brother seem to have it? It's so distracting. And this week she was just bad. Flashdance was a terrible song choice. Gwen Stefani and Jimmy Iovine should have told her so. I wonder why they didn't. Maybe they secretly hate her as much as I do. Clearly, the wardrobe people do which is why (continued...)

( continues...) they continue to dress her like a tarted up Golden Girl. I sincerely hope she will be gone next week.

What else? I don't care about JLo's new single or her failed TV show with ex-husband/undead ghoul Marc Antony and I wish they would stop pushing them both on the show. Randy is dressing worse than he ever has in any previous season and that is saying a lot! Steven Tyler remains a nonsensical delight. Ryan needs to really ease back on the make up, although I love him a million times more than ever for trying to engage in a serious discussion of hair highlighting techniques on live TV. Warmed over British boy band that is not going to make anyone forget Take That? I refuse.

Oh man, y'all, I do love Idol.

kat p!!!! So good to read your commentary! If you keep this up, I may actually pay attention to Idol when I have it on in the background!

Sounds like the CBS shows are running late -- better check your DVRs, Amazing Race fans.

So, I've now seen SYTYCD alum Hok Konishi wiggling it in a pink leopard-print speedo, thanks to the LMFAO video for Sexy and I Know It. I kinda think I preferred that hummingbird and flower dance, but you gotta give the man credit for owning it. I guess.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

The Voice: Juliet and Jamar were the only ones who actually caught and kept my attention, but I was glad to hear Cee-Lo admit a lot of people thought the Shields Brothers won and I am still fond of Tony Vincent even as I keep trying to decide if he reminds me more of a turtle or Dean Pelton.

I agree, Lee. I didn't like Juliet before, but she was really good. Jamar was one of my picks to go all the way so I wasn't surprised there.

Tony sounded good, as did Mathai, but she can't enunciate at all and it drives me up a wall.

Everyone else was sort of boring, or worse, although I continue to find James Massone adorable even though he is completely out of his league.

I think James M has a lot of potential with pre-teens and teens, just because he is adorable.

I'm not nearly as impressed with the singers on The Voice this year as last.

I love Tonight Tonight but the girl singing it was just forgettable.

Chessa is not diva enough to go by just the one name. And I suppose she was better this week than last, but that's not saying much. Blake was right. It was like watching Solid Gold. This is not a good thing for a singer in the 2000s.

Former Mouseketeer Tony Luca didn't even go for the falsetto. What is the point of doing this song if you don't hit that lovely, vulnerable moment. Dude, if you have a sucky false, then don't sing a song with falsetto. Christina called him one dimensional. Ha! I love it. She is hating all over him. What is up her butt?

Kim sounded OK, but kinda copycat. I wish that folks would retire the Adele covers on singing competition shows. Cee-Lo was right. Bad song choice. Bad coach. Bad Adam.

James M. is cute as a button but he sounded like country fried ass on that song. If he sticks around, it'll be mainly the cute factor. He does have something there, but he needs to develop a lot. A lot. Hitting every fifth or sixth note and a couple of runs is not going to cut it.

Juliet killed Roxanne. Absolutely killed it. I was not a fan, but that was awesome.

Mathai. Hmmm. I also liked her very much. I thought the vocal was gorgeous. Really lovely runs and I enjoyed the interpretation of the song. That said, Christina wasn't wrong. As much as she loves to just hate on Adam on general principles, that performance did have kind of a rainy afternoon in a cool coffee house kinda feel. Still, one of the best of the night.

I was totally freaked out by the staging for Tony's performance. Also, I kind of didn't love the song choice. I mean, I love the song, but it's kind of monotone. It's not exactly a singer's showcase song. Lots of people can probably do a passable rendition of that song in their showers.

Who's the next girl? Karla? Yeah, I could barely hear her over the music. She seems like she has a decent voice but it's awfully thin.

Erin. I refuse.

Pip. Love that song. Don't love you doing it. It did make me want to go listen to The Killers sing that song, though, so something good came out of it at least.

Jamar. Wow. That was a great way to end the show. Heaven knows I hate a sob story, but I will try to look past it if he keeps singing like that.

What was Blake's problem tonight? He really seemed like he did not want to be there. Dude, it's no one else's fault that he picked by far the weakest team of the season. He's just a bad judge of talent.

Adam and Cee-Lo seem like they have the inside track on a winner this season.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, I think the overall talent is sadly weak, and I also want to go listen to the Killers now. And my hometown boy James is adorable with how happy he was for himself, but he needs some serious vocal work. Jamar definitely wins the week.
