Voicewise the ejected Christina contestant might have been better, but Frenchie performed it better, if that makes any sense.

Meanwhile, Idol is so boring. I started out loving this season because I think Steven and JLo are charming, and I still do, but I couldn't care less who wins.

This cannot be said enough. All the other judges thought he took it.
Yeah, it kind of made me want to scream homophob! at the TV, and wish Reba would smack some sense into him.
I think it was more that he didn't want to lose country dude, but still.

I think he picked a terrible song for both of them to sing. The worst song, by a mile, of all the 4 judges.
Yeah, I don't think he was voting against the gay guy -- the tweet happened much later, and as stupid as it was to say, I don't think he's a raging homophobe. Just a guy who hasn't figured out that shooting the shit with his buddies is a lot different than putting something out there to thousands of people, and as many interpretations.

I do think this was (at least) part of the decision, in all fairness, but I still think part of the reason is Patrick's straight all-American look.
