Then he turned to me, and the very first question he asked was, "Tell me, Tom, why do you want to work for us?"
Ha! "Well, here's the thing, Dick. I'm about to graduate from college, and I'm going to need a regular paycheck."
We were going to schedule a demo lesson when I found out about jury duty. So, what, "Thank you but I don't think it'll be the best fit"?
Sure. Especially if the scheduling is going to be a problem.
"Tell me, Tom, why do you want to work for us?"
"Because I am insane."
"Because the voices in my head told me to."
"Because I'm a bad man and I deserve to suffer."
"Splunge."
"Tell me, Tom, why do you want to work for us?"
"Sorry, but I've just remembered I left the gas on. Gotta go!"
"Tell me,
Dick,
why do you think I do want to?"
I'm blown away by how many people drag their kids to see movies that start after 8.
Not to mention how many parents you see bringing little kids into graphic horror movies. You should share your story about the guy who asked for his money back during...what was it,
The Hills Have Eyes?
Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
That story really sticks with me. (Laga is a theater manager, so she sees a lot of benign child abuse, IMHO.)
ETA:
Tom, that's when you say, "Ever since I was a child watching
Family Ties
and idolizing Alex Keaton,
I knew someday I would find a company that would surpass even those high ideals."
Uhm, Kristin, I graduated (a year late) in 1990. Family Ties ended in 1989. Thanks for making me feel old.
story about the guy who asked for his money back during...
Well there's two stories. The one with
Hannibal
he simply said he wanted his money back because couldn't enjoy the movie because of the small child (guest estimated that she was six yeard old) seated in front of him.
The other one I'm pretty sure was
The Hills Have Eyes
and that guest wanted us to call 911 on a family with small children. When we refused he did it himself only to have the 911 operator tell him it wasn't an emergency. He asked to be connected to DCFS but ended up getting a refund *and* a free pass and leaving. I felt so sorry for that guy even though he was kind of a dick about it. Because he's RIGHT it IS child abuse!
Hee. Sorry, Tom. I forget that we have a slight age difference.
Easily fixed, though: "Throughout high school and college, I watched
Family Ties
and idolized Alex Keaton. I knew someday I would find a company that would surpass even his high standard for uptightedness."
I threatened to use the breastmilk to make ice cream.
You scare me.
Try making cheese.
"Tell me, Tom, why do you want to work for us?"
"Well, Dick, I lost a bet."
"Guy's gotta eat."
"You have beautiful eyes."
So I have returned from the hospital with the GF. She's tired but happy to be home. Just very disappointed we had to leave Mattias behind. Tomorrow she'll be going down to the hospital during the day with her mother and grandmother while I'm at work to visit. Then the rest of the week I'll be picking her up after work and we'll drive down to visit with him for awhile, hopefully bringing him back home with us on Friday.
We called the hospital when we got home and he seems to have kept his 6pm feeding down, which is good. Hopefully that will continue.
Glad to hear Noah and Grace are doing well.
While I'm sure I'll make plenty of mistakes as a parent, I'm pretty sure I can avoid most of the boneheaded ones. Allyson and Laga's stories are just infuriating. Of course, I've seen plenty of way too young kids in movie theatres. I recall seeing Blade 2 in the theatre and a man was there with his 6 year-old daughter telling to close her eyes for all the gorey parts.
