Spike's Bitches 36: Did I Sully Our Good Name?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Is LJ being problematic for anyone else?

Apparently the electrical grid achieved perfect happiness.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I don't want to be spoiled (haven't read The Book yet), but has Potterdammerung arrived on schedule? Just out of curiosity

I haven't trolled Fandom Wank enough to know, but I feel sort of disappointed not to have heard of really big ridiculousness anyway. Most of my friends aren't that wanky themselves, and some are still waiting to read the book, so dissemination of links may not be proceeding apace. Perhaps later in the week, critical mass will be achieved.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

The most wankery I've come across has been not so much the fandom as non-Potterphiles scorning and sneering at everyone getting all het up. So far my favorite is the commenter on Matthew Yglesias' blog who said haughtily that being a grown-up Harry Potter fan is really very much like having a fetish for those videos of women in high heels stomping on rodents: if you have ugly proclivities like that it's certainly your right, but you at least ought to have the grace to not admit it in public.

Though I also like the guy on "Making Light" who felt the series was full of plot holes and shoddy writing (despite having only read the first two and a summary of Deathly Hallows) and who felt that all adventure stories are like games, and if there's some piece of information the characters don't know until the end (the diary is possessed! You can only get the Philosopher's Stone if you want it but don't want to use it! etc.) -- even if the characters are preteens and part of the point of the entire plot is about them rushing into situations they don't fully understand -- then the person who wrote the game is CHEATING and the whole thing SUCKS. And he doesn't need to actually read the series to have a fully informed opinion on how much it sucks, thank you very much.

It makes wanking from within the fandom seem almost quaint and adorable. And yet I keep seeking it out.

JZ, you should collect all those people and ask them to form a line outside my apartment so I can punch them in the face.

If I want to sit down and watch, will there be comfy chairs and popcorn?

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I paid FULL PRICE for it in the airport yesterday. We were on a layover, so I grabbed it. I was going to wait until I got home, but I finished my other book. I was going to grab a magazine or something, but there it was! My students were jealous. It is now sitting in my car, teasing me. I was going to bring it in to "read at lunch", but I know damn well that even if I had managed to last until lunch time, I would have read it for the rest of the afternoon. I had too much work to do to blow off the entire afternoon :)

Why does LJ hate me? Hopefully the answer is somewehre in the last few messages, which I am about to read.

TJMaxx, however, loves me, and I got a suit ($100) that makes me look damn skinny, AND a pair of navy blue leather Oscar de la Renta slingbacks for $15! Sweet!! Plus, navy means no need to wear the caramel/camel shoes. :)

I am happy to report that after 6+ months of unemployment, my DH has been offered a job in the subject matter he was hoping for

Woohooo! Go DH!!

What part of "Rent is due on the first. If not paid by the fifth, you will be assessed a late charge." do you not understand?

He expects an invoice? For rent? that's just weird.

t edit to add: Vortex, I did the exact same thing with Book #6, bought it at BWI
