Stuff that was fun for us in Edinburgh...
On Victoria Street in Old Town has within spitting distance of each other: Maison Bleue (restaurant) Bow Bar (excellent whiskey selection, cask ales, and atmosphere) and a cheese and honey shop.
In the city center, we liked the Guilford Arms for a drink (1-5 West Register Street); and we had a nice time, good beer, decent cheap food at the Kenilworth (152-154 Rose Street.)
For a tour of the lower levels of the city (which is, imo super cool), I think this is the one we went on: [link]
We also had fun at a North African (???) restaurant, Phenecia (55 West Nicolson Street). Went for tapas at La Tasca, 9 South Charlotte Street. A friend of ours rec's King's Walk (restaurant)
I'm sure you have your hotel booked, but we were quite pleasantly surprised with our stay at Royal British Hotel (20 Princes Street). A bit shabby, but large rooms, clean, and FANTASTIC location, right in the middle of the city. relatively reasonable as well.
There are some fun shops in the Grassmarket, which is right around the corner from the Bow Bar.

Spike's Bitches 36: Did I Sully Our Good Name?
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
The Sir John Soame Museum is a weird little collection of stuff.
Edit: There's also the Dickens museum. But you need to like Dickens.

Aw guys... ::sniff sniff:: I just don't know what to say...
er, and there's museums... and castles... and stuff... in Edinburgh. I haven't done too much there on the cultural scale. We're more wanderers than go-do-stuff-ers.
Gris, if you're there through Sunday, the market at Camden is really cool to browse and wander around in. I adored the Tower of London. We also did a Thames river boat tour that was sort of neat. And the London Eye (but it's cooler at night). Also, the reconstructed Globe Theatre tour KICKS ASS.
Sweet or dill?
Dill, baby.
I used to adore the Natural History Museum. Went there weekly when we lived in the neighbourhood.
Ooh, when you're in Edinburgh you should go see the graveyard at Blackfriars, where JK Rowling got lots of the Harry Potter names from. And there's this underground medieval town tour thing that I didn't get to see but is apparently extremely cool.
And when will you be in Edinburgh? I'm arriving on Sunday and staying for a month, if you fancy a pint?
Yes, FTW = For The Win. Expect me to sue it a lot fduring Friday Night Lights, Season 2. Possibly with pom-pon arms. *o/*
Also so totally and completely FTW - Dame Shirley Bassey covering Pink's "Get The Party Started". Originally for a Marks & Spencer TV ad, it's now the title track on her latest album, and so awesome it kills me. I can't get any more work done. I am dead from awesomeness. I need to do a picspam of Dame Shirley's awesomeness.

Yeah, that was the link I provided upthread, but it was buried in a giant pile of other crap...
