A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

"Tin Man" stars Zooey Deschanel as a young waitress named DG. (Clever! The only thing that might have been more clever: Orothy-day Ale-gay.) DG's workaday world is filmed in color - don't worry - but her existence is gray and Goth-tinged. "There has to be more to life than this," she moans to her parents, before they all get swept into the tornado that drops them in the vicinity of Oz. Wait, I mean "The O.Z.," which stands for the Outer Zone, which recalls TV shows by Alfred Hitchcock and Rod Serling as well as "The O.C." That's three, three, three all-time TV classics in one very subtle reference.
Every preview I've seen of Tin Man just makes me cringe. Of course I'm still pissed the 1939 version turned the whole thing into a dream.
I got bored during the first hour and went to bed, but somehow I still really want to see the rest. DH says it gets better in hours 2 & 3 (mainly because that's when they completely depart from the Oz stuff and start telling the original story), but since the screeners have no effects I may just wait for it to air.
I want it to be good, although my family suggests that it could still be a win if it is Mansquito bad.
The effects may make quite a difference to the experience. I already know I'm going to be in trouble because I'm going to be wondering why Temperance Brennan is in Oz.
I'm going to be wondering why Temperance Brennan is in Oz.
Now that could be a nifty, if trippy, fic.
Except it's not Temperance; it's her sister.
But they look enough alike one might still think Tempe even if it's the other one.
There's a Wicked Witch of the East and Wicked Witch of the West parallel in there.

That review was REALLY weird. He didn't actually talk about anything but how the new one aped the movie (in the absolue snarkiest terms - as if doing any version of the WoO was heresy) until the last paragraph, where he didn't provide a single example towards the charges he was leveling. It made me think unfortunate thoughts about a certain stereotype who is way WAY too overprotective of Judy Garland and her legacy.
