A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Matthew Gilbert at the Boston Globe really doesn't like "Tin Man"
That review was REALLY weird. He didn't actually talk about anything but how the new one aped the movie (in the absolue snarkiest terms - as if doing any version of the WoO was heresy) until the last paragraph, where he didn't provide a single example towards the charges he was leveling. It made me think unfortunate thoughts about a certain stereotype who is way WAY too overprotective of Judy Garland and her legacy.
I thought the review was really funny.
t shrug
I think that when you change things like calling the new place "the O.Z.", you're pretty much asking for people to focus on the "clever" ways in which the remake apes the original.
I'm watching DW and I forgot about the pissing contest the Daleks and the Cyberman get into.
"Exterminate!"
"Delete!"
"Exterminate!"
"Delete!"
...I quite like the idea of
Tin Man
myself. I mean, I'm rather a sucker for retellings/reimaginings/revisions of folk tales and fairytales, however well or badly executed they may be, and althought Baum's books aren't technically that - well, in effect they are. Um. Plus - Alan Cumming! Always delightful.
I hope it doesn't suck beyond the telling of it.
The one review I read said that "Tin Man" was inappropriately named. That is, the "tin man" isn't even close to being a major character in this mini-series and the reviewer couldn't quite understand why this was named such.
lalala
I'm not reading the reviews because I would like to enjoy it. If it can not suck enough that I can mock it while still having fun watching, that would be enough.

but, but! I wants lots of Neal McDonough!
::grabby hands::
I watched one of the behind-the-scenes on SciFi Pulse and they were saying that the essence of the story could be found in the Tin Man, and they didn't elaborate, but I took that to mean that "heart" was the main theme.
I broke down and read one review. And it was good! [link]
But in Zooey Deschanel, who plays D.G., it has a heroine who's almost as winsome and likable as Judy Garland's original Dorothy, and even when it gets carried away with its special effects, it always scurries back to the characters, who are the best reason to keep watching.
My #1 concern is not liking the characters. I can forgive lots if I like the characters. I'll be able to watch tonight, but the rest of it will be delayed. How long it is delayed determined by tonight.
