I do like that his "spend more time getting to know him" strategy toward integrating Ianto into the team apparently included the Biblical sense.

I'm going back through Eureka season 2, and I've hit the eighth episode, "E=MC...?" and realizing that this was the probably the beginning of the end of a decent/o.k. sophmore season.

Someone else who thinks like me! I've seen a lot of people diss the whole second season, but I think that in some ways the first half of the season was an improvement on the first season. They seemed to get the mix of quirky and occasional splashes of darkness right, people seemed more settled into the characters... and then they introduced the twerp and it all went to hell.

I mean, if you discount the horror that was "Relax", the less than stellar performance of Fargo's dad, eta and the complete waste of Taggart when he did show up, eta and the growing and inexplicable frigidness of Allison towards Carter, eta and the start of Carter not giving a crap about Allison, the first half showed so much promise. end addendums. And the issues I had with the darkness don't show up almost at all on my computer, and there's really freaking fabulous lighting that I hadn't appreciated because of all my griping about the muddy darkness. i eta Although I still question the sudden presence of the blue cave in the middle of GD (and the show) and it's repeated use.

It's just too bad that E=MC...? marked this point in my brain, because that was also the ep with the wonderful Dr. Emily Glenn who is so much more awesome than Cally, and who should absolutely be brought back next season in a recurring role. Even if it's just for the charm of her personality. I don't necessarily need to ship her and Carter, she was just a fun character in a refreshingly actually quirky way.

For me the first season is superior, but it wasn't until the second half of the second season that I began to really worry that my show had lost it's way irreparably.

at the time, he was probably thinking that she was smart enough to get into Torchwood, she didn't completely fuck up, and he's down a team member.

I mean, she very stupidly takes Susie out of Torchwood in secret, when they could have just as easily had her convince Jack, and then the lockdown happened. Still displaying her "heart" characteristic, but far less stupid.

I loved both these points. Perhaps because I didn't think their attraction in S1 was explicable at all. I thought it was done gently enough, with Stark being just pushy enough, just there enough to convince Allison he was all she needed--in combination with Jack at the start being too familiar. Very glad it went that way. Allison has a better relationship dynamic, and I love Jack and Nathan this way more too.

I don't know why I watched all of Hex, because...damn. But I hated it and kept watching it, and it wasn't even cheesy fun anymore. I think I was hoping for the really big trainwreck.

This was completely my experience. What a load of wasted potential!

I can see that. I like Carter just fine sans Allison, and I really like Allison with Stark.

I'm (still) irking about it because, despite the clumsiness of the relationship with Carter and Allison in pushing it too hard too fast, that was what was established. I don't mind that they got to the nothingness between Carter and Allison, but I still found the progression from friendly flirtation/potential-life-partners to not even platonically friendly. They went from "not having a thing with the coffee *winkwink*" to "I nothing you" (in the famous words of Jordan from "Scrubs") --except for when they're not, heh.

But I can see that if the season one dynamic was the most irksome, season two dropping it like a bad habit would be welcome.

I personally would rather have seen more disengaging on Carter and Allson's part, though. But that's my preference.
