Oh my god. What can it be? We're all doomed! Who's flying this thing!? Oh right, that would be me. Back to work.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Ah -- fun makes more sense. I was thinking maybe there was something -- I can't think of the word, but like colloquial or not-quite-literal -- with the "passport" thing.

It is the new fun in my bath, with the glitter and all!

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, right, verbs.

Alternate English teacher perspective on new SAT: it's really nice to be able to clearly link writing skills to that oh-so-important test.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

What with all the paper writing that my academic college classes required (and even some of the art classes with lecture components), I can see how having some indication of an incoming student's skill level would be very handy.

And, likely, depressing as well.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I agree that writing was shamefully ignored before, but if it's true that SAT writing scores don't correlate well with students' actual writing ability, I don't think it's the right instrument.

signed,
still bitter about tanking the GRE writing section

Oh I agree--I'm not talking about the effectiveness of the test itself; I'm talking about the usefulness of high school English teachers being able to say "You'll need this on the SAT."

Oh! In that case, GODS YES. It's an argument that's compelling for them in a way that "you'll need this for the rest of your life even if you imagine you can find a major with no writing once you get to college" just isn't.

(Please, please fix my annoying apostrophe error in that quote? I was clearly possessed temporarily by a high school student.)

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I had to take Comp I because I did so poorly on the essay portion of my college entrance thingy. STILL BITTER.
