Today I drive most of the way to Providence to take part in a "Financial Concerns During Transition" workshop offered by the career counseling service that's part of my severance package. I figure it will be worth the gas, at least, and maybe I can detour by IKEA on the way home, since I need ever MORE boxes to put stuff away in....

So my phone rang at 1:11 am today. I didn't hear it ring, but the answering machine did wake me up. It's my brother and they are at the hospital and they just broke my SIL's water.

I scramble to the phone with the numbers in memory and promptly hit redial, not memory and call my poor parents. Luckily, J'd just called mom so I wasn't waking HER up at least. After a few sleep-garbled words, I manage to say goodnight to her and call the brother. He sounds high as a kite and PJ is chattering away in the background and from what I remember, all is going well.

AND he just called. Tyler was born at 6:40 this morning at 7ls 1 oz. YAY. AND Dominic just called me again to tell me his favorite zoo animals are the alligator and the komodo dragon (he's gonna buy one) and they are driving to the hospital to see the baby and mommy and he's excited!

Librarian Warlord

Dear Tyler, Welcome! Please feel free to let your parents sleep in -- no need to be quite such an early bird!

Dear Dominic, Don't pet the alligator or the komodo, but admire them all you want from a distance!

Congratulations, sarameg!

I'm sure your Mom wouldn't have minded if you'd woken her up with that news! Welcome to Tyler! (It's your Auntly duty to make a big fuss in the coming days over Dominic, who may be feeling a bit rocky what with the changes in the family.)

Yay! I have a picture!

(It's your Auntly duty to make a big fuss in the coming days over Dominic, who may be feeling a bit rocky what with the changes in the family.)

Luckily his phone skills are such I can actually interact from a distance. Of course, sometimes it devolves into calling each other goofy names and roaring, but...

There is also the sending of small toys by mail. Never underestimate the power of some stickers, a picture book, a Slinky, and a crisp $5 bill to loom large in a small life.

What is even happening?

sarameg, congrats on your new nephew.

t not baby

So in addition to a screaming headache (for a good cause) I started my morning with my rage on. Went down to maintenance. Find out that I am NOT on the list. Do a serious dressing down, without swearing. One of the crew sticks his head in and asks why I was not on the list, because after all, I was on it last year and that thing really needs replacing and he thought I was on the list which is why he didn't add me last week. I call this all stupid and unacceptable and watch them AGAIN put me on the list. Mind you, I told them April 22 it needed to be replaced (verbally and in writing) and I'd been told the summer before it would be. Oh and corporate just ordered new units friday. I again call this unacceptable. I think I'm going to go in again tomorrow and ask for a schedule IN WRITING. And corporate's number (which I have somewhere, I just want THEM to give it to me.) And ask them what they are going to do for me in the meantime, hmm? (Would have today but at this point I was pretty much stuck at UNACCEPTABLE.)

I'm going to be the bitch they wish they'd never met and can't dismiss.

And I had to fix something here at work that I would have known about if people used the right channels and not buried a request for x in a message about y.

So basically I'm wired and flipping between ragey and really happy. It's kind of scary.

t /not baby

T looks a lot like D did!

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Yay for new babies, and for getting your completely justified bitch on!

Today is one of those stupid days I have to be at work an hour and a half early.

Hate those.
