So there is a group picnic/potluck offsite this summer. On a friday. From 12-5. On a workday. When a good portion of the group can't take partial days. Um. crosses that off the schedule. Not that I was planning on attending in the first place

My office usually closes down for half a day for a staff picnic ... I try to either be on vacation or call in sick those days.

I do think that company outings should be on company time though.
