Actually, it's been surprisingly rain-light and wind-light here today. I hear up North is still getting hammered, though.
Natter Area 51: The Truthiness Is in Here
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Windy as hell here. Gusts close to 50 at various points today.
Good grief. Mister Kitty got shut in the closet this morning apparently. I don't discover this until I've frantically searched the apartment, expecting the worst (both cats usually greet me, demanding a treat.) Dumbass cat. (They aren't allowed in the closet. I have no idea when he snuck in.)
The president at our university (nowhere near VA) just issued a statement about the shooting at Virginia Tech!
not sure that even my tiny campus could have been effectively locked down - but I think spreading the word could have been done fairly fast - and this was pre-email. Proof that a multi-channel attempt to notify people should protect the campus some.
I had jokes. I don't feel like it now. I heard about it on the radio a while ago and thought about our uniistas.
Yeah, but most of the ones I know don't have any boundary like that -- there's no gate to turn anyone away from, just building entrances.
Here the gates are really about parking entrances. There are also a few porous boundaries for those on foot.
Our boundaries are fairly non-porous, but we're not a normal uni: teaching hospital, serves the specialty needs of the city/county jail population, research facilities semiregularly picketed by animal rights activists, home to a Unabomber victim, located in an area with a high earthquake risk. Lots of emergency procedures, 24/7 surveillance cameras, automatic door-locking and corridor-sealing at the flip of a switch, etc. etc. etc.
Also, no on-campus student housing. And from what little I've seen of the off-campus student housing that's available, what little there is of it, security measures there are bare-bones to nil.
My television appears to be dead. In the grand scheme of today, it's nothing, but man, I really don't need this extra expense right now.
ETA: Except I think I just resurrected it. Okay then, little TV. Just keep on keepin' on.
This Death Cold or strep or whatever needs to be gone, stat. Despite feeling pretty good at work today, I ended up coughing so much on the drive home and afterward that I just tripped my gag reflex and threw up. (Guess not eating out in my work city was the right call.) Tomorrow, I'ma see a doctor and find out if it's something an antibiotic can help with.

Ugh. You have all my sympathy. My weird, and I suspect at least partly psychosomatic, throat problem (which seems to mostly be over and done with, thank dog) used to do that to me all the time. Of course, it didn't help that I've had a hair trigger gag reflex as long as I can remember, but I could usually avoid the puking.
