OK, this article annoys me: Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims (It's the
Daily Mail
and applies to the UK)
Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Government backed study has revealed.
It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.
The article never mentions how many is "some teachers." Apparently it's at least two.
The researchers gave the example of a secondary school in an unnamed northern city, which dropped the Holocaust as a subject for GCSE coursework.
OK, at least one school of unspecified size dropped the subject. Can we get an idea of how many schools this is an issue in? Or percentage? I guess not from this article.
I mean, if it's a widespread problem, that's terrible, but if it's a few isolated teachers and/or schools, then this article might be fanning the flames of an anti-Muslim backlash....
There's nothing like being wedged under a desk in a dark office in a pharmaceutical plant and having a computer tower catch fire right in your face.
We had to smuggle it out through a locked chain link fence so we could repair it, navigating by hushed whispers and moonlight.
A whole bunch of funny and/or wacky animal pictures: [link]
I think the fox barking at the praying mantis is my fave. Or maybe the cat and moose touching noses. Or the cat confronting the bald eagle....
A very buffista sofa.
Ooh. You could stick it in a conversation pit.
What a great sofa! I wanted it until I saw the price.
If the natural brown picks it up far far less...well, I guess I have less of a problem with that than a semi-permanent that wears out and leaves even more faded pink in its wake.
Are you thinking semi or perm? How bright do you want it?
A very buffista sofa.
It makes me want to build a Genie Bottle house around it.
I think that sofa would make me claustrophobic.
I'd put one of those sit-in book cases in the middle of it and never come out except for food and bathroom.
