And the Chicagoistas don't have a cat herder. Maybe we need a Buffista exchange program.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I've never had an orchid before, but I've always thought of them as high maintenance plants. Is it wise to give two people who are incredibly distracted by Other Things a plant that is easy to kill?

Kat, I've heard that keeping them in a warm place with lots of indirect sunlight and using a tray of pebbles that you can pour water over to keep the air around the orchid humid is the best bet short of a hothouse.

The Wild Oats Market has them for $17, so I'm thinking of getting one myself and putting it on my round coffee table instead of the current candles and piles of assorted videotapes.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Matt, I read your post twice and thought you were talking about Grace and Noah.

What is even happening?

You weren't kidding about the tugboat, Allyson.

Kat, I'm glad you have Roman and am right there with you on the orchid. I'm not bad at gardening, but have inherited my mother's black thumb, when it comes to even hardy houseplants. Just reading, "orchid," or "African violet," makes me feel like a killer.

Well, I added Kat's quote for clarity, but I did mention the orchid in the first sentence of the original post.

Besides, what are the odds of me considering the purchase of a baby, no matter how big a discount the market was giving?

oooh! thanks for the advice Matt. That will be a weekend project. My cell phone, brand new, is all fritzy which of course pisses me off. stupid cell phone! Must resolve that today.

Babies for $17 would be a total discount. In the short term. the long term expenses are killer.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I'm intrigued by the idea of keeping a baby in a tray of pebbles....

It's just that my reading comprehension is shit before coffee, Matt.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I've never been able to make an orchid bloom again, but the flower lasts a long time. I just think of them as particularly long-lasting cut flowers. That way I'm more resigned to their inevitable death. They probably would do better for someone less lethal to indoor plants.
