I don't mind the feel but goddamn do they hold some stink.
This too!
2 extra pair of socks and changed at the 9 and 18 mile marks.
Excellent advice. I don't think stopping will 'stop' me. I did rest breaks on the AIDSRide and still kept going. And the idea of a 'refreshed' feeling on my feet is a good incentive to keep going.
The best socks are the ones that are two layers of material.
Any favorite brands?
Body-Glide
Please do tell. I haven't had chafing problems yet, but I've not gone more than 7 miles yet.
I'd be grateful for ALL advice. I'm a bit concerned about finding ways to maintain momentum and what comfort will be available. I've done endurance bike rides but this seems different.
Oh hell yeah. Body Glide rules. The double layer socks you can usually only find at running stores. They're amazing for blister prevention.
REI has Body Glide on sale right now, Beej. Use it wherever skin and cloth rub -- my problem when running was always under my arms against the arm hole of my shirt. My poor DH -- and he'll love me for sharing this -- uses it on his nipples, which have been known to get so chafed they bleed, from his shirt rubbing them during a triathlon.
Body-glide ... sounds porny (how appropriate)
Yeah, that happens to a lot of men. In this context at least, the sports bra is your friend.
Loves Body Glide on my arms, and the double socks. I had such a huge issue with blisters that I taped like mad too.
no marathon advice, but you have my support, Beej.
I decided that this is home day. I didn't even go to the coffee shop this am. I might need to find some caffeine if I am going to do anything.
Got official news that the potential job shift that may have gotten me out of the current work mess is a no go. They want someone local. Frack.
Being ignored to your face, not fun.
Whoot. I've even got an REI discount certificate. Bring on the Body Glide!
Oh my. A friend's husband did a marathon without this good advice and the front of his shirt at the finish line was, well...Yay Body Glide and the sports bra.
Thanks so much for the support. I'm excited and encouraged.
I think I really need a male coach though, so I may have to make some changes in my assignments...but so far, so good.
And about the fundraising? I'm 2/3 there already. Such a blessing.
