Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

So, if I went in and said, "I want a choppy shag" - I'd get the look I'm after?

You'd want to be a little more specific. You should try to find a stylist that works well with a razor, or somebody that cuts a lot of asian hair. You want to emphasize that you want a lot of choppy texture through the shag. Definitely talk about showcasing your hair color. Be specific about the length you want in the back. Talk a lot about how you want it to frame your face and what you want from the bangs - probably something chipped out or razored.

It looks like a simple cut and any stylist can do some kind of shag. But it's a style that can look too boxy if it's too short in back, or look bad and mullet-y if its too short on top. Top layers should be long enough to come down over the sides about even with the eyebrows. The shortest layers will be on the sides between eyes and mouth - that's where it should hug the head and be sculpted to highlight your best features (eyes, mouth, cheekbones, whatever...). I think they look best when you've got a few longer pieces on the sides in front of the ears that you can draw down to the mouth or just below.

Short list: shag with a lot of layered texture that shows off the color. Length in back should be to about the last vertabrae on neck before your shoulders. Emphasize leaving longer layers on top, and longer pieces in front of the ears. Longish bangs that are chipped out and textured.

They can always go a little shorter on any of those areas to get the balance right, but if they go too short early on those elements then it's too late.

Speaking of hair, I'm seriously considering going and visiting the girl I like (out by my parents), and having her just cut my hair REALLY short again, so it's not the pain in the ass it is right now.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I need to get my haircut next weekend. It's crazy wild looking! But still fun.

Thrive to spite them

I've gotten so many compliments since I've gone blonde, but I'm still not used to it -- the color. And compliments since it started growing out, but my almost dead center part is back and won't go away. So I'm going to the salon and asking the guy to give me a style that works with the part rather than against it.

Art Crawl!!!

THanks - that's plenty specific.

YAY! I made an appointment with my hairchoppah.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I get my hair cut tonight! Very exciting. I'm going to keep the angled bob, but I want her to make the angle more acute and dramatic. My hair's not dramatic right now, and I MUST LOOK MY BEST THIS WEEKEND.

Ahem. No, I'm not nervous at all. Nope.

Sadly, the haircut interferes with watching Game 1 of the Buffalo/Ottowa series. The things I do for my look....

I endorse this plan. But then I think you were made for short hair.

Last cut was phenomenal.

Hair drama! It's true. The more dramatic your hair is, Juliana, the more stunning you look.

Indeed. It grew out great, too. It's only been unruly the past week or so.

I'm just gonna go and tell him to do whatever. He can do the same cut or whatever else he wants to do. Full Steam Ensassification Ahead!

But then I think you were made for short hair.

Apparently, my hair agrees.

I finally figured out what was wrong with this cut, though. She angled too sharply, so when I pull it behind my ears it looks really funny. And, since I often pull it behind my ears, it always looks funny. Right now, I've got it pulled back in clips, which is pretty much how I've been wearing it since I got it cut. I usually only do that when it's really needing to be cut. Most frustrating.
