I had to fight the feelings of resentment that came from knowing my parents were too overtaxed helping my sister with the husband and three kids, not to mention my brother, financially to ever be able to offer the same support to me if I was ever in a bind. But it made me sort things out for myself early on.
Yeah, I kinda spent a lot of time in my twenties resenting that my dad died after helping my sister and one brother put downpayments on houses but before I went off to college. My mom blew through everything he left her plus everything from her mother so fast there was no time for it to do me any good. I'm over it now. Mostly.
